DriveMango – The special 0W-20 oil that Jag calls for is actually different from what you've got in the link above. It's 'Castrol Edge Professional E 0W-20' – not the 'OE' – and it will have the spec right on the bottle, STJLR.51.5122. It's almost impossible to find except for the dealerships or a few rogue quarts on eBay and it's priced like gold. I think the most readily available non-dealer oil meeting the spec is Motul Specific 5122 0W-20. Video is great by the way. I wonder if a rubber 90-degree elbow can be used to help get the last bit of oil out?

Fit-Bully says:

@DriveMango Forgive this probably obvious question to most… But if you had to extract the oil through the tube… How are you ADDING the oil with a funnel? Are you literally funneling the oil back through that tube or is there another way?

Harry Dennis says:

Great video, thank you. One question, how does the engine cover come off? I've searched fruitlessly online for an answer. Thanks again.

Max Power says:

Awesome, thanks for the video. I am looking for a 2014 XJL V6 with an extended warranty :-), saw the same middle tube when I opened the engine oil cap. Your video confirmed what I thought it is. Much easier oil change than a drain plug.

JI Carro says:

Hi.  Same procedure for the V8.  Extracted 8.0 Quarts.  I used the EWK pump: http://a.co/7L3BXEy
Thanks for sharing.

Dillon Eklund says:

Just bought my f type the other day the video helped a lot and I ordered everything you had in the description but I’m using the factory oem oil . Got a case for 65 on eBay

Brandon Herrera says:

No drain plug?

Another issue I ran into with my 2014 F-type is the oil indicator reading “oil level unavailable”, I made the mistake of starting the car and then trying to check the oil level, the car needs to be off for 10min after it’s been run to read the level, mine took about 7 quarts, used Castrol edge performance 0w20 bought from Amazon, from my research it’s the closest thing to the Jaguar branded version and honestly can’t believe the Jaguar version is anything more than a marketing ploy to try to get you to pay $$$ for an oil change. The 5w20 is cheaper and would probably work just as well, the manual says 0w20 yet the oil cap reads 5w20

Howard Hughes the 2nd says:

I'm sticking with the JLR Castrol co-developed oil change Castrol Edge Professional since this is the oil recommended by the manufacturer but more importantly tested on the engine. With the tolerances so tight on these engines I don't want to risk it with other oils. Also reading carfully part of the debate is that other oils meet or exceed the "requirement" doesn't mean it was tested to that requirement.

It sucks my oil changes are 300 bucks but only once a year isn't that bad as per JLR interval.

I am sure these other oils are fine but I don't want to risk it on these historical problematic vehicles. Hopefully you guys can show us that these oils are good if not better by your testing

Thanks for posting video on this, and trying to help & educate DIYers. By the what year is it ? Also also how did you reset the Service Required light ? I am researching on internet, and it says it needs expensive scan tools to do that.

Carl Stahlkopf says:

"25 Nm – I don't know if that is some kind of euro jargon" 🙂 Yes, it is! Go metric USA!

Daniel Tri Nguyen says:

I usually don't leave comments but appreciate it just saved me $558 from jaguar Marin…..basic oil change

grip tact says:

Thomas Ferrugia says:

Were you able to get any tips/suggestions on resetting the oil-service reminder light on the dash? All I've been able to find is that it must be done via the OBDII port, but I'm not sure whether you need a reader programmed to communicate with Jaguars, or whether it simply appears as a general fault that can easily be reset by any code reader.

VOIP Portland says:

Nice video. I am sure F-type owners appreciate it.

Anthony Goss says:

Thank you for the video. I have almost 40k on my 2014 orange vert. Now I need to find out how to change the air filters.

GetOffMyyLawn says:

After getting billed almost $250 for an oil change on my XK at the dealer, I am going to start doing changes myself as well. I think the UV dye in the dealer oil is there so they can argue that you didn't use the right oil if the engine blows. For the 5.0 XK Jaguar requires that the oil meets spec WSS M2C925-A, which a couple Castrol Oils on Amazon meet, like Castrol 03083 EDGE 5W-20 or Castrol 03086 EDGE Extended Performance 5W-20. There is also a way to see the exact measured oil level on the XK which is by going to the oil level display, and pressing the cruise control cancel button twice within 2 seconds. The normal display only shows the min/max. Also, I agree on the dipstick… my car is currently displaying "Oil Level Monitoring System Fault" due to an issue with the sensor in the pan… I've never seen a car display a "dipstick fault" before. Thanks for the vid!
