Atari Jaguar – Reverse Power Supply Protection Diode Mod

Atari Jaguar – Reverse Power Supply Protection Diode Mod

This is a much needed modification that should be done on every Atari Jaguar and CD unit. The issue is that Atari made the Atari Jaguar with a centre negative supply. If a centre positive power supply is plugged in, it destroys a couple of chips inside. As most modern power supplies are centre positive, its an easy mistake to make. This mod will allow the wrong power supply to be plugged in and although the Atari Jaguar won’t run, it will mean that it will run when the mistake is discovered.

Also testing out the Atari Jaguar GD drive. I got my one from Retro Towers in the UK. Fast delivery. In the video I said retro HQ as when it came it was marked up with all their logos, my bad. Not sponsored and bought it with my cold hard cash. Recommend it for anyone that has an Atari Jaguar as it opens up a world of homebrew games.

The tutorial I followed is at retrorgb.com. Very good and explains how to do it step by step:

The Original Gamer says:

I've never understood why any engineer ever would use a barrel connector and connect the pin to ground and the barrel to positive. Am I stupid or is that just an obviously bad idea that should be ridiculed?

Biker Dave says:

I only have a towel, a vague recollection of a brain cell, after the first Pan-Galactic Gargle-Blaster and a new found fondness for Mice (ALL HAIL THE OVERLORDS) Babel fish and Vogon poetry..
But i digress and the answer is 42.
Why 42, well thats for the next Atari 32×32 bit system to figure out.
