@sddbug The cam drive gears are press-fit and located by pins. These pins
had sheared.

AlxeMsatain says:

Ho’ shit Mine is running crappy too, but not THIS bad :O

evil03mustang08 says:

The cam gear definitely got split from the cam… check the follow-up vids.
Weird, I know.

evil03mustang08 says:

@TheLoneRabbit FWIW – I’d already replaced the intake manifold gaskets.
They were not the problem this time. JLEMOND from planetisuzoo . net
pointed me in the direction of the cam gear locating pins. The gears were
timed just fine, but the cams weren’t.

fernando martinez says:

There is a leak of compression in a or some cylinders or and you head
gasket is broken sounds like the engine is no bueno

evil03mustang08 says:

…30 PSI on the odd bank (1,3,5 – passenger side) That ain’t right. A
reputable source says the pin(s) that hold the gear(s) to the cam(s) may
have sheared off and messed up the cam timing in spite of the belt being on
correctly. We’re looking into it.

evil03mustang08 says:

@TheLoneRabbit Did you watch the rest of the series? The cam gear locating
pins had sheared.

RoastFesh says:

does anybody know a good cliff I can run this vehicle into!!?? money and
time abyss! nothing but problems…@1:55 WOW!!!! LOL!!!! Dude, I feel you.
I made the same mistake, I bought it! Wish I’d have known…solution: sell
for parts or load it with explosives, run it off a cliff, and enjoy the
blast!!! that’ll get your money’s worth in the end!

Scott DeLaine says:

Timing! What would split the cam from the cam gear? you could cheak the MAS
and O2 sensors are heating up, could that might mess with the comp. Dont
all the timing gears have markers on these engines? mine does

sendebad1 says:

Check the exhaust , it seems to me the engine when it burns the air can’t
push it out so not enough burning which makes the engine stops .. Not sure
just an opinion

Spencer Johnson says:

Intake manifold gasket

Josh Harris says:

Hello, I got a 1997 isuzu rodeo that is making the same noise that yours is
making, redid my timing, still doing it, i seen ur vids on the Camshaft and
im going to check the tomorrow, but i was wondering before u took off ur
cam where u able to move ur cam back and fourth with about a inch of play
on each? Please help me, im looking at bookoo money out for a new engine..
and this may be a cheaper fix.

William Somerby says:

I have had this SAME issue with my 2003 Rodeo. You have cracked lower
plenum gaskets. They come over-torqued from the factory- meaning, they’ll
only last about 50k-75k miles before you have to replace them. Its a simple
fix, and should only take about an hour. You don’t even have to take off
the upper plenum, just unbolt it and lift the whole unit up. Just make
EXTRA sure that when you take out the old gaskets that little pieces don’t
fall into your engine!
