Changed water pump, now truck will not start. Any suggestions on what to
check?

IncogInfidel says:

My dad has an 02 duramax and when he first got it, it was wrecked and the
fan was broken, we couldn’t find a tool to get the clutch fan off, not even
at the dealership, eventually we ended up using a chisel, I was dumbfounded
how easy it was after all the hell it gave us.

Eddie Fontaine says:

nice video, I have 05 duramax process about the same, belt differant
routing, pretty close great job, very helpful thanks for your efforts in
making these videos, well done.

andrew oconnor says:

haha wish i would of watched this before i started the job.i did make a
nice spanner wrench for the fan. but i failed to notice the bolt behind the
harmonic balancer. i pried it out 7 it moved but then got tough.so i
stopped & ran to the parts store & compared the new one & found i missed
the bolt. then i found your video. so I’ve had no luck getting the
harmonic balancer off to see what damage i caused. it’s 12:30 so i gave up
for the night. wish i woulda watched this first, back at it in the am

John Greene says:

Amazing video!helped alot still anit changed but half way there lol.

671LMM says:

Good DIY video!!!i installed my water pump following your video and
everything but my check engine light is still on. Do you have any idea why
that is? Btw it’s a 07.5 CC Duramax LMM

Diana Contreras says:

My duramax has diesel leak do you have any advise on how to locate it and
fix it and btw your videos are great

Brandon Smith says:

thanks man

melanie branton says:

Dude, you are awesome!!!!

Tyler Jackson says:

wow what a pain in the dick

Theresa Newton says:

Pure brilliance with the chisel. I could not figure out how to hold the
pulley still while using a wrench – cam in, did a search, found your video
– had the clutch off in less than 5 minutes. I didn’t see any of the other
guys showing that trick – absolutely fantastic. Now I’ve got to address
the 36mm 12 point socket!

9856CB says:

Great explanation Brian. You are a true Rube Goldberg!

Branum Spliethof says:

do you have a video on how to replace the fuel cinder to register that I
actually have fuel in the truck. My fuel gauge says low fuel when I have a
full tank. thx

anthony hager says:

Thank you so much. One of the hardest things is working on a vehicle and
not knowing what you need.

brently300 says:

and 9:20 you said 1/2″ breaker bar, did you mean 1/2″ drive extension?

akonitony2 says:

Ever use a strap wrench to hold the harmonic balancer while breaking the
bolt loose with a 1/2″ impact?

Robert Bishop says:

Just wanted to say thanks. This video was very helpful.

PrestigeWorldWide says:

Not that hard to get a fly wheel locking tool, got mine in 2 days. Not that
hard to find they’re all over the internet

biggun500 says:

Do you have to pull the harmonic balancer? Does it trap the water pump
housing?

Scott Stanley says:

So I have an 05 lly..do i not need to pull the radiator or the intercooler
to do this..that would make life soo much easier

purogto32 says:

i have days trying to take out balencer n can’t. wtf

Timothy Reed says:

How to you get the pipe out? You cut back to it already being out and I’m
stuck there.

brently300 says:

9:05 you said 3/4″ did you mean 3/8″ drive ratchet?

akonitony2 says:

Hey, I’m replacing the stock HB on my LBZ with a Fluidamper. Looking for a
nice electric fan setup. Any ideas? So far, I’ve only found one
solution from Flexalite.

jamie willis says:

jamie willis says:

XxBlksnshnxX says:

I had to do two of these since Thursday. The first one was a 01 2500hd
Silverado and it was easy thanks to your video. Today I did a 06 Savannah
2500 Van, that one was a bit of a pain. Just no room to work. Still got
it done in about 3.5 hours.

model T Ford says:

This is a great video, and very helpful. And also very discouraging. I
would like to write the GM engineer in the motor department, but I believe
he has been fired (remove harmonic balancer for one bolt! Come on!
Really!?).
BEFORE YOU START THIS PROJECT, PLEASE READ THIS COMMENT: I got home with
my 380,000 mile 01 to see antifreeze running down the harmonic balancer
from behind the fan pulley. My many years of turning wrenches led me to
believe there is a water pump behind that pulley, like most normal ones are.

I tore into the project (by the way, sharp chisel and blow from the hammer
loosened that big fan nut, thanks Brian) eventually to wonder if the water
pump was bad, but NO antifreeze on the drivers side of the engine, all on
the passenger side.

What I thought was a water pump, I believe was that short 3/8 rubber hose
that was swelled up and I believe ruptured, since the timing gear cover
appeared to have been somewhat “washed clean”.

I replaced the hose ( and what a bitch that coolant pipe is to re-install,
new oring and lots of Vaseline) and let it get to temp, so far no leaks.

Shitty part? I had one bolt left over for that water pump housing I
noticed after I put just enough back on to start it, and it was the bolt
BEHIND that dam coolant pipe! It’s staying off until something major makes
me replace it, like an oil leak or something.

Question for Brian, what is that sensor that unplugs to get the fan pulley
off and should a guy just replace it?

Lynx Star Automotive says:

“It’s only torqued to 200+ lb/ft and it has thread locker on it” loooool.
Them fucking bolts have made us all cuss

Cole Boatright says:

Hey man I’m gearing up to replace the water pump on my lb7. Can you comment
on the quality of the Murray pumps at Oreilly Auto? Or what pump do you
recommend? Thanks

justin T says:

Hey Brian, question for you. Will the antifreeze ever reach the timing gear
case/crankcase if the seal between them is screwed. Or will it just seep
out of the seep hole and not go any further?

Rogen4ever says:

Ran of the timing gear? So that means I don’t have to worry about a timing
belt/chain?

Timothy Reed says:

Just to let you know, it’s on min 8 of the video. Thanks!

Timothy Gholson says:

Thanks, great job on the video. Think I’ll take this one to the real
mechanic (not me) ha ha.
