first time starting the twin turbo isuzu diesel

This is my isuzu 4bd1t diesel engine in my 67 F100. I finally got it running after 4 months of work installing the twin turbos and IRS out back.

can i add a second turbo to the 4jb1 isuzu 2.8 tdi engine?

joshuas10 says:

Are those electric fans enough to keep it cool?

Nick Steggel says:

for the retards below: the dual turbo set up seen here is compound turbo
charging… where the large turbo feeds the small one (boost side) and the
exhaust gasses travel engine>small turbo>large turbo this set up gives
greater boost than either turbo alone or a standard two turbo set up and
gives a good spread of power through the whole rev range… so you dont get
turbo lag or turbo stalling

tpvalley says:

so the big turbo blows through the small one? wont this hold the big one
back? cool conversion.

jvlpro Estomo says:

thanks for this video. recently we just bought a truck with 4BD1 engine.
can we just attached this “turbo” thing. and how do we do it?

tpvalley says:

does one turbo feed the other or do u have valving that prevents the
smaller turbo blowing back through big turbo when it hasnt spum up fast
enough to boost?

Craig Mills says:

what turbos did you use? And did you do internal engine mods? I’m thinking
of doing a similar 4JG2TT set up. I currently run a 4JH1T with modified
turbo and Steinbauer tuning module but would like to build up a replacement
2 Stage engine for shits and giggles but haven’t heard of anyone else doing
one around here (New Zealand).

That is great. I’ve been wrenching on these isuzus for years now. Great
engines. The only problems I found with the B series engines were the oil
cooler o-rings. They usually go around the 20000 hour mark so you most
likely won’t have an issue with that. We have a lot of customers that get
40000+ hours out of these things. How much boost are you pushing and what
all did you change with the injection system?

dordtrecht says:

love it….I am an Izuzu fan myself…drive an LBZ and have been
considering building a chevy luv with the 4bd1t like you have here with
compound turbos…have you thought about different trans….what do you
think you will go with since converter slippage?

dem9617 says:

man the sound of it I LOVE IT!!!!! haha

Turbo617 says:

That first turbo alone is more than big enough for your engine, the second
one is massively oversized. All you’re doing is hurting performance by
doing that. Learn to turbo match.

chackos123 says:

That’s awesome! I’m considering a diesel swap into my 2002 Jeep Liberty. I
was planning on the Cummins 4BT, but this looks like a great alternative!!

yamahonkawazuki says:

i am impressed. as a gasser convert. NICELY done definately thumbs up on
this video

Rabiesthecat says:

first get a manual and read it second understand how it works and
everything THEN put the turbo in it
