Hi, I performed the steps in the video. After the switch was removed I test
and there was power, but when I was putting it back together, the
screwdriver was touching the screw and also touched the soldered connection
to the green wire and there was a spark. After the spark, there does not
appear to be any power going to the ignition switch. The headlights and
interior lights come on, but no dash lights, power locks work, but not the
power windows. The security light is also flashing and I’m thinking the
spark may have engaged the immobilizer. Any ideas

@ROOTZBABY (un)Fortunately, I don’t have a ’99 here to do any videos with,
couldn’t really show you how that’s set up. Should be all but identical,
you’ll just have a NATS antenna around/near the ignition cylinder.

boredmder says:

They don’t really ever break, they just wear down. And yes, it is a
relatively common occurrence. They can be repaired quite easily, or
replaced for <~$30.

Did your switch go out or is this just a vid showing how it’s done? I have
to lift up & turn my switch fast to get mine to start

The hi boredmder is the yellowwire at the bottom from the airbag ?

ROOTZBABY says:

I have a 99 max 4th gen, which has the chip in the key. My car was broken
into and I need to replace my ignition as they tried to hotwire the car.
Now I was told that the antenna to the computer that detects the chip in
the key, is damaged. Is it possible to do a vid referencing the 1999 max,
with the chip in the key? This vid is GREAT by the way, good work.

boredmder says:

Yes, that yellow connector is for the driver’s airbag module.

boredmder says:

If you’re referring to the ignition cylinder itself, you’ll have to drill
the bolts out. A left handed drill bit works well for this. The tamper
proof bolts they install from the factory shear the head off when they
reach the correct torque, preventing easy removal.

A somewhat related question: Would you happen to have any suggestions for
removing/replacing the dash-mounted ignition switch on a 1998 (Second Gen)
Infiniti Q45?

KinitoCheetos says:

i want to remove the ignition switch system off of the steering column. how
do i remove the two screws holding the clamp

boredmder says:

Sorry, never done any dash work on an older Q.

This is how an instructional video is supposed to be prepared. Simple,
effective and clear. No frills. A picture is worth a 1000 words. So, speak
less. Stick to the issue and don’t deviate. This guy provided instructions
in 10 minutes, which would have taken 1 hour from reading a manual. More
importantly, he preped his props to avoid time-consuming tasks like
unscrewing components. No need running the camera while removing screws
mutiple times. Kudos to the instructor. Job well done.

boredmder says:

@hp11208 No, I likely won’t be making one of those unless I find the need
to replace my ignition cylinder. It should be fairly straightforward after
you drill out the two security bolts.

boredmder says:

Much like many of my other videos, this was made just to show how it’s
done. I think the only videos I’ve made during required repairs are the
water pump, LCA, compressor, and evaporator videos. Everything else I tear
down and reinstall just for the sake of showing people how to do it.

hp11208 says:

do you have a vid for the ignition lock removal
