Replace Hyundai Key Fob Battery

If your smart key(key FOB) for your 2012 Hyundai Sonata has stopped working, then the problem is most likely the battery. It is pretty simple to replace it and I show you step by step in this video. The procedure shown in the video should also work for similar model year Kia vehicles.

I'm glad I've been able to help so many people with this video. If you would like to say thanks you can help me a lot by using my Amazon affiliate link in the description of the video if you need to purchase the battery for the remote. You can also use the link to do any shopping on Amazon's site and I will get a small amount of money from the purchase, it doesn't cost you anything. I don't want you to feel obligated, I really am glad that this video has helped so many people, thanks.

Wow! This helped me a lot! I had the battery replaced at the shop, but the guy that sold it installed the battery upside down. I have called the dealer with questions and they told me to tow the car over to re-program the remote. It cost +/- $150. I decided to youtube it and on this video shows the way the battery should be. I opened the remote fixed the battery and worked!! Thank you so much guys !!

Kerry Jayne Jackson says:

Much appreciated better than the Manufacturers video plain and straight to the point.

Rachel LaBastide says:

Actually, you don't need a screwdriver to open the phobe remote. You can use the end of the key in the smaller slot next to the actual key slot at the top of the remote. Just press, twist, and it will separate and open. 🙂 Nice video though.

Rosalie Krajci says:

Great! So clear and well-paced. Thanks for what seemed might be a complicated solution.

girlsrockurboyz says:

Even better, buy an American Made FORD! The key fob that came with my Ford Ranger I purchased new in March 1996 was still working in Nov 2014 when I sold it! Both of them.

John J Case III says:

Nice video.
Funny, I was even randomly using the exact same Thorsen screwdriver. I already had a 10 pack of Sony batteries from Amazon ($4.24), so it only cost me 42 cents per fob. Cheers!

kme06d says:

I have a 2015 sonata. When I took apart the remote, one side had the key contacts and one side had the circuit board. Did they change something or did I not do it right?

Edit: There's an extra step. You now have to remove the circuit board to get to the battey.
