We took this video to show you how to remove and replace the brake light switch on Hyundai Sonata fifth generation. This should cover years from 2006 to 2010.
It is very simple procedure and it should not take you more than 5 minutes to do it yourself.
If your ABS & ESC OFF light are all the time On then most likely it is a faulty brake light switch. Sometimes you might have the ESC OFF light only.
Even your cruise control may not work because of the brake light switch.
Another common problem for the ESC OFF light to be on is a Not Calibrated Steering Angle Sensor. We have the video on our channel. You can check it out here:

Interesting – easy fix. I'm getting intermittent "ESC OFF" dash light that clears every time I turn off the car and restart. It started happening not long after I installed a new set of tires – maybe that has nothing to do with anything and it's just the switch going bad (170K miles on the original switch). I should check the brake lights when the "ESC OFF" comes back on to see what's going on!

Nightbird says:

Sadly this didn't work for me. Other than replacing the Yaw Rate Sensor..any other ideas how to fix this issue.

Thank you for this video! After watching I was able to fix my mom's 2005 Accent. The Brake lights would not turn off. Part was $10.99 at auto parts store. This saved us a ton of money!

Dale Jewett says:

Dude! I love you! I fixed it and the break lights are working and the ESC light is no longer on. You rock!!!!

Tedric Bullocks says:

Thank you!
I replaced the brake light switch following your video, but the ESC light is still on there and pressing the ESC button does not turn it off.
Is there any other way to fix this?

Red Velvet Cake says:

I have one question .what is that yellow/white circle padding on the brake ? Mine doesn't seem to have that and I think that's the problem

Charlene Coffman says:

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!  I did this by myself last night on my daughter's 2006 Kia Sportage and it worked!  It looked exactly like this!! The hardest part for me was getting the nut off – I couldn't find a wrench to fit but finally got it with some needle nose pliers. Part was $12.  I called the dealership and just to diagnose was going to be $70 and then to replace it was over $150 parts and labor plus the gas to drive it an hour and a half away!  I am so happy!

My 09 sonata V6 while driving the ESC light will come on and then the car shuts off. I have to pull over and turn the key off for a minute and then it will restart. The check eng light is also on "Bank 1 and 2 running rich" Thanks

Taher LOKHANDWALA says:

sxysteve87 says:

This did not fix the issue for me. What else could it be?

roderick clay says:

My Kia is different it's a 2012 Kia Optima mine have a plastic piece on anyone knows how to get it out all of the video shows earlier models and I'm having problems!!!!

john wayne says:

yesterday I had a driver behind me get out of his car to tell me my brake lights don't work. I had no clue it was due from the ESC system which kept on lighting up and staying on every time I started the car. Hopefully by replacing this ESC my brake lights will work again.

Probesford says:

World Mechanics , Hi, I have a problem with my 2008 hyundai sonata v6 gls. The brake light, abs light and esc light all lit up on the dash and there is a constant humming/buzzing sound coming from the area of the master cylinder, even when I turn the motor off. I disconnected the battery for now and will see a mechanic but was wondering if you would have any experience with this issue.

jonny2tim3 says:

before i tried what this video suggested i ordered a brake light switch oem and only the esc off light was on and now i replaced it with the new one and both abs and esc are on

Matt Harbaugh says:
