Hi, I was wondering on a 2002 Chevy cavalier. If the key wont turn all the
way to crank the car, could it be the ignition cylinder or something else?

Jessica Umarquez says:

My truck was broken in to so some body that was a rookie jam my ignition
switch how my key won’t go in at all so how can I get it out to put a new
ingition switch

xozackxo45 says:

Would you be able to do this without the key because I lost my key and now
I am thinking about changing my ignition lock with a new set of keys!

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

Great piece of info, thank you!

Alton Brown says:

Hyundai elantra are all the same from 2001 to 2006 I just took an ignition
out of a 2001 auto elantra and put it in my 05 elantra that is a 5 speed
with keyless entry and it works great if anyone was wondering.

JD Kane says:

Thanks so much!big help!!!

Billy Gehrke says:

Would this be the same process for a 2003 hyundai sante fe?

cotelo says:

I wonder if it’s the same in a 2005 Elantra. At least the A/C panel looks
exactly the same.

Lasotto Davis says:

Do you know where I ca n find a replacement ignition lock cylinder? I’ve
looked everywhere, I can’t find one anywhere. I need one for a 2003 Hyundai
Elantra.

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

I have a tripod but in this video I just rested the camera against the
passenger seat.

Lasotto Davis says:

Is it possible to start the car, without the ignition? With some skinny
nose pliers?

Glenn Burke says:

Do you have anything for replacing the ignition switch for a santa fe 2006?
Also would it have to be coded?

tneri8 says:

Can I remove the ignition without the key? Situation is unique. The current
ignition is already a replacement & may have lost even the spare.

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

I did a quick search and couldnt find any either, your best be is your
local junkyard or dealer. Sorry

Lasotto Davis says:

Ok. Thank you for the video!! One more question. If I get a new ignition,
would I have to change anything else? Will it just lock back in place and
start up?

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

Dont quote me but I think you should be alright even if the car has an
alarm system. GL

Lasotto Davis says:

I can’t find the ignition anywhere, even at the dealerships! I have to move
it from where its at that’s why I was asking.

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

hmm, Probably not without damaging the lock cylinder (drilling.etc) why
dont you just a someone to make you a key? it’ll be easier and maybe even
cheaper. If you shop around you can find a deal I am sure. GL

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

you can try drilling out the tab or drilling into the lock cylinder around
where the key broke off to make room and try to get the broken piece out
somehow! Also you can just replace the whole ignition lock with the
assembly it goes into! Its connected to the steering column with two snap
off bolts I believe, use a chisel and a hammer to try to get them to turn!
I guess before doing that you can always use the hammer and chisel to try
and break and turn the ignition cylinder. GL

1000uf says:

Good voice. Did you use a tripod?
