Head gasket jobs also include new head bolts and they are not cheap

On a 4 cylinder it's actually pretty easy. And i can't stand working on cars I get over whelmed. And if I did it in like 3 hours, I imagine a michanic could do it in 1 hour. A boxer engine would suck.

Long long time ago i learned just swap out engine and run down the original problem
Peeler need to realize that even if you put say $1500 a year in repairs and 4k every 7 years on top of that…… It's still wayyyyy cheaper than even the cheapest new car!
Buy used, and put $200 into a sperate account every month for when you need repairs! Most months you won't need anything, some months you might need $600. And worst case, you gotta spend $4k for a rebuild or something. Either way your saving money and it's yours. No repo if you fall in hard times or something comes up where you gotta spend all your money.
No there’s like 1k in parts alone if not more really. And then the labor. And then sending the head off to be checked and decked. Plus that’s more time down than the job pays by like a lot.
Same as replacing a rear main oil seal
It’s just better to swap the engine at that point
And head bolts are torque to yield and can only be safely stretched once. Best to get a head gasket kit with the head bolts, I like to use blue permatex head gaskets.
On top of that if it overheated you gotta check for warping and possibly send the head to the machine shop

I see it all the time it just needs a rod bearing that is only 5 bucks or a transmission solenoid.
And you have to clean off the old material, most of the time resurfacing of one of both matting surfaces.
Why would anyone ask why it cost so much
Stretch to toque head bolts? machine work on heads?
Why wouldn't you get the dealer gasket after all that work
Ask them same ppl to change their own head gaskets then lol
