This SHIFT Goes Hard! Hybrid Racing B/D Series Shifter Install | Honda Civic Project

The Honda Civic Project shifts into 2023 with a new Hybrid Racing Short throw shifter! I give you my review on the K-Tuned vs. Hybrid Racing shifter to find the BEST option for these 90’s Honda’s. We also replace the leaking shift shaft seal and do a manual transmission fluid change. Enjoy!

My 1999 Honda Civic coupe has been overdue for some NEW modifications! I figured since I needed to replace the leaking shift shaft seal, now would be a good time to compare the K-Tuned X2 Shifter to the Hybrid Racing Shifter. I’ve always said that the shifter upgrade was one of the BEST mods I’ve made to the Honda Civic. So I wanted to see if HR made that shifting experience any different!

For reference, both of these shifters work with B and D series motors amongst EK’s, EG’s, Integra’s, Del Sol’s and more. Whether it’s VTEC or non-VTEC, this shifter upgrade alone will make the slowest of Honda’s feel like a racecar. Both are fully adjustable and can have very SHORT throw shifts, or slightly longer shifts. The OEM shifter on most 90’s Hondas feel extremely sloppy and both of these are a game changer along with upgraded shift linkage bushings.

As usual, I love mods that improve the driving experience of an underpowered car and BOTH of these shifter have a great notchy and precise feel. As far as which one is best, I’ll let you guys be the judge of that.

Here’s the goodies in today’s video! Thanks for watching!

Now I don't know if I want the stock shifter assembly or a short shifter for my ES1 LX when I swap the transmission lol

The_One _Over_There says:

When it comes down to the hood, I'd definitely keep it the way it is,
It being the same color as the rest gives it that clean look.

Carbon hood 2023.

Ronin says:

Carbon fiber hood, trunk and Spoon mirrors!

Ris4Root BEER says:

What's the name of that shifter boot replacement?

Brandon says:

I’m looking at the hybrid full shifter console with cables to finally remove the traditional Honda/Acura shifter rods. Hybrid Racing you can’t go wrong. Got 90% of my Kswap parts from them.

Henry Becerra says:

Carbonnnnn for lifeeeeeee

kraftydc2 says:

dont understand why you didnt put the shifter boot back on instead of that plate? it just looks unfinished to me

Alex Mercado says:

Those shifter bushings look like the Hardrace shifter bushings. Cause they dont look like they're polyurethane like the Energy Suspension ones.

BTW Anthony, you mounted the Hybrid Racing shifter in reverse on the linkage. The 2 hole side should be toward the front, and the 1 hole side should be toward the stabilizer bushing

ian irizarry says:

You can fit a jack under there? Needs more low hahaha

My absolute favorite Civic build of all time! I own a Milano Red "99 EX coupe myself and can only DREAM of having it to the level yours is at.

kippa T says:

ive always wanted this shifter and from the research ive done i have heard others say they do vibrate in the higher rpm would be nice to know if it goes away over time though

Joshua M says:

"D16 trannys are pretty much bulletproof…" Welp my 97 civic is on its 5th one.. & on its 3rd engine..

ice9dragon says:

Happy to see the civic back! I installed a K tuned short shifter after watching your videos, though I used the version 1. I have this really annoying rattle, however 🙁 still shifts great, love the notchy feel and short throw, and the height adjustment.

Dominic Schwarz says:

need to stop wasting time and get the 1320 shifter

Mike Pelletier says:

Loved they video. I stand behind hybrid racing because they are a major supporter of Erik kutil. Their products also look very well designed. This video and you build also make me really want to get back into an EJ8 again.

Arijan Dautaj says:

If I'm not mistaken, the bushings you're using are energy suspension bushings, right?

Drew Rosa says:

Do you still do Detailing on the side?
