Thank you, but I took it to a mower repair centre first and was charged €70
only to be told that the transmission needed replacing at €650!

Mackenzie Rough says:

Hi Gerald, I’m glad that my video helped, not sure what your problem is but
is the mower now useable? Are you sure that you put the wheel driving gears
back on the right way round? I found on mine that with the new transmission
the Hydrostatic speed control had no effect but it preforms quite well,
pity they can’t build them the way they used to as my 25 year old Honda
still works a treat! Good luck.

Francesco Giustarini says:

Good video!! I have the same problem and I want ask you the part number of
the new transmission. The original HRX537 have the transmission
20001-VH7-A00 (480$) but one dealer says it is replaced by 04200-VH7-315
(220$). But lownmoverspros.com write me: Honda does not confirm
that 04200-VH7-315 kit replaces 20001-VH7-A00.
I’m bit confused!

Took my HRX 537 out for a spin this morning and straight away noticed that
it was pulling to the left. Got my spanners out and took the drive wheels,
the gears and the bits and pieces apart, noticing that they were in need of
a good cleaning and greasing. Put everything back together and got into a
bit of a tizzy about which way the small gear went.
First attempt and the machine wouldn’t propel forward. Tried again,
assuming the right hand wheel, as viewed from the rear was the problem
because I hadn’t been using my eyes when I stripped it down.
Turned the gear round and the machine propelled forward. Sorted, I
thought, but back on the grass the machine still wanted to turn anti
clockwise circles. Called it a day and went for my tea, thinking perhaps
the left hand gear is the wrong way round.
That was when I saw your first rate video.
I will look at my machine again on a rainy day with a view to getting it to
move in a straight line but in the meantime, Mackenzie, or anyone else, I
would appreciate and comments you may have on my attempts so far.
Thankyou,
Jim. West Yorks.

KEYFREEUSA says:

Very, Very Nice tutorial. Thank you for your time and quality production.
You have helped me a great deal. I needed to replace rear wheels and a
cable on a 2003 Harmony HRT216. I wasted some time and then decided to
YouTube. Glad that I found you.

Thanks again for your hard work and contribution.

Tiffany goodness says:

hi, great video. I wonder if you could help me make sense of what my mower
is doing.

The bottom line is that when the self propel is engaged, the wheels do not
spin whether lifted off the floor or not, and this is without loads.

I feel that the cable for the drive has a little slack, however, when the
mower is running and engaged, I also pull on the cable and I do not notice
any movement of the wheels at all

Please help

Well done! Well filmed and very informative. I just hope I don’t need to
make use of the info. Had my mower for about 7 yrs now and no trouble

Merci

Gerald Kosoglow says:

Your instructions were great. Replacement transmission had smaller pulley,
and I assumed it might have different gear ratios as mower is over 9 years
old so I put it on anyway. All parts fit well except getting last circlip
on is tough. I get no movement at lo speed. I think cable at max setting.
How can I be sure? Also, when trying to turn mower both rear wheels act
like there is no differential. Is that correct? Don’t remember it that way.
Guess I need a little more

2705ok says:

great video, very informative, but a lot of time and money could have been
saved by, replacing the 2 drive shaft oil seals, 50p each, topping up the
gearbox with hydrolic oil, then bleeding the system

Mackenzie Rough says:

My pleasure James, Good luck with your repairs. Regards, Ian.

Mackenzie Rough says:

Thank you Douglas Chin-Yee, I’m glad that you found my video informative,
I’m sure that Honda would not be interested as their Dealers would be
losing bushiness, I was quoted a massive 600 Euros to do the job! Anyway
these clutches should not be wearing out so quickly! I have a Honda which
is 26 years old and the clutch still works fine!!!

Hi, Now that is interesting as I did contact your company by email and was
told that you could NOT confirm that the part was suitable for European
models, a pity as your price was much better, hopefully you will now get
some business from my video and send me some commission. Kind regards, Ian
Rough.

Mackenzie Rough says:

then a snap ring, Wrong…

I found this video invaluable for replacing the transmission in my
HRX217HXA mower, especially since I didn’t have a service manual. I set up
my laptop in the garage and played/paused the video as I went step by step
through the process. Thanks for this extremely helpful and well done video
and I truly appreciate you putting it together and posting it here.

The spring washers always go on behind a wheel….

Douglas Chin-Yee says:

I ordered a new transmission as the clutch was worn out. I was worried not
knowing how to replace the transmission. I found this you-tube video which
is the exact model as mine. Thanks for this video as I now have a complete
step by step video of how to do the job. This is the best help video I have
ever seen. You should sell this video to Honda customer service!!!
