The airbag system will hold a battery charge for a short time.
Disconnecting the battery and waiting will allow the SRS system to drain
its power in case you hit a sensor so that the bag will not blow in your
face.
Actually, you should check into this. The letter of the law can vary
between States. I believe on the Federal level changing the mileage to the
original value is legal if done when the swap occurs. Another alternative,
as other people suggest, is move the speedometer / odometer from the
original cluster over. It’s a relatively easy job to do, and shouldn’t take
more than 15 minutes with both out of the car.
Actually you should buy an odometer replacement sticker for your door jam.
You will write the mileage from your old odometer on it and stick it inside
your door. Then your new one will start at zero but you have an “official”
record on the vehicle to determine what the actual vehicle mileage is. If
you don’t do this you will have problems when you have to report mileage
later for title purposes.
you can actually. you have to take apart the cluster right to the gauges
and take out the speedometer screws at the back. speedometer slips out and
you put yours in and put the 4 screws in the back, back in. there is a
youtube video on it
Thanks for your reply. But I actually asked about the tacho. Mine stock
cluster does not come with tachometer. Was wondering if i replace it with
another cluster which has the tacho, would it work?
Comment on your video: Removing a Honda Civic instrument cluster Great
Video mike very well instructed ,attention to detail, well done. Since you
are obviously a great instructor could you possibly tell me………If i
change a cluster in a 92 civic DX base model with no tachometer to a 92
model that has a tach. Will i have all the electrical plugs needed for it
to function or will i have to wire in the tach part of the cluster ? any
help would be appreciated.
amigo! d q c puede c puede, pero es contra la ley (cosa q a uno no le

Yes it is easy to remove. The hardest part is undoing the couplers in the
back. Push in the lock tabs and pull straight back on the coupler not the
wires.
i want to change mine because i got no rpm, but i want to know what happen
to the mileage of the car? is it will change automatic or i have to do it
myself, or i just can’t change it? please respond! thanks.

A little different. i will try to send a link for you to read on how to
remove.
Sorry but it is illegal to change the mileage on the odometer. The best you
can do is remember the difference between the 2 clusters.
Excellent and clearly shows how to remove the instrument cluster panel.
Thanks.
Yeah, I did the swap yesterday and it went by pretty easily. Thanks for the
reply.

thanks man. you saved me $100 today.
Thanks i see them on ebay for around 100 dollars would be nice to have
same thing for a 2001 Civic?
No
so i can’t put the original mileage of the car on the new cluster?
Is it a relatively easy job?
I don’t have a manual for that year. Checking online a cluster with a tach
should work ok.
thanks men for the video

yes you can ? just remove the 3 or 4 screws on the back of the speedo on
the motherboard and swap them out.

Doing a online search shows that the tach wire is already in the harnish.
So this should be a plug and play setup.
Thanks so much. Help a lot…
