A test light would be a lot better than a volt meter…. At least in this application.. Even a simple light bulb would be better for load
My GF has the same type Honda CRV, 3rd generation and she's had wiring problems with it too. Turns out that Honda was trying different things on that generation of Honda. I have the 2nd generation, a 2003 Honda CRV and they were more reliable electrically. That's what the mechanic said, he had ran across electrical issues on the 2007-2011 (3rd generation)

I thought you possibly could have assembled the thermostat housings on the bench before installing it, might have made it a bit easier?
Some of the electrical diags last year convinced me I could figure out why my electric start on my snowblower wasn't working. I thought it was the starter but it just needed a $10 solenoid. Thanks Ray!
Was it noisy enough that you didn't realise the meter was reading a circuit to ground when the fan was running? It seemed to be a ground switched circuit.
