Maybe it’s because it doesn’t know how fast the car might be going so it doesn’t want to open the doors in a potentially dangerous situation? Only thing I can think of… because it works when the car is off i assume it tells it it’s fine because it’s not possibly moving. I wonder why the doors wouldn’t open in park though? You’d think only in drive they wouldn’t work.

Sounds like the car's BCU isn't getting a speed input from the ECU so it doesn't want you to open the doors while driving.
