Thanks for the informative video.
I purchased my HS55 back in November of 1987. Its been very reliable, a
good work horse all these years. In December of 2013 the auger belt broke
for the first time and I replaced it myself. I would have replaced the
drive belt at the same time, but my local supplier didn’t have it in stock,
and I needed the machine so I put it back together with the old drive belt.

Yesterday the after using the machine, cleaned it off, and when going to
put back in the shed, it wouldn’t drive. I ordered a new belt online
hoping that was the issue, and was able to take the housing cover off today
to inspect. Fortunately it is the belt…it was off the pulley and a big
gash in the belt.

So I proceeded to break apart the machine, removing all bolts. My problem
is, after all bolts removed, the left side of the machine breaks apart, but
the right side won’t budge. Seems like there is another bolt holding it
together but, they are all out. I thought maybe there was ice at the seem,
so I used my propane torch, but still no luck. Got a block of wood and hit
with hammer, still nothing. When I replaced the auger belt last year, I
didn’t have this problem, it came right apart. I borrowed a couple of long
screwdrivers tonite and will try prying it apart tomorrow. Any hints on how
to separate it?

Also, how do you get those bolts back in place without removing the wheels?
I had to remove them last time to get my hands in there. I remember
getting the wheels back on was a chore as it is hard to get the holes in
the rubber gasket to line up properly.

I also have the problem with the impeller housing getting frozen. It never
happened until about 2 years ago, now it gets ice bound a lot. I use the
propane torch to melt the ice.

Thank you.

Do I have to pull if apart to do the drive belt?

I have a honda snow blower model HS 828, bought new January, 1991.
I notice that you state that before tipping the honda HS55 up on the bucket
you should remove as much gas as possible. What about the engine oil,
should I remove that as well from my HS 828 before tipping it on the
bucket? ( I’m planning on replacing the auger belt.)
Would appreciate your advice.

Hi Alex,Very nice job and unfortunately I have replaced my auger belt many
times. I have replace both pulleys, and idler tensioner. There is not
excessive drag on the auger assembly and it is well lubricated. The pulley
alignment seems right on but a belt only lasts a few hours and then comes
apart. I have tried many different belts including oem and kevlar
reinforced the results are the same. I have brought it to a Honda dealer
with no good result. The engine and transmission work great but this belt
problem is baffling. Any thoughts?

Really good vid, giving the viewer a really good grasp of the process and
proper way of doing the job. This machine was well cared for and obviously
well built. Are the track drive models that much more difficult to maneuver
than the wheeled versions? It seems to me that if you are going to spend
the amount of money required to buy a 2 stage Honda blower you might as
well get the track model for the relatively slight price increase over the
wheeled version, the tracked models like like they will go through just
about anything.

Nice video. Your videos are some of the best small engine videos on youtube
alongside donyboy73’s and smallengineshop’s. One question is are you
planning on finishing the Tecumseh Snow Engine refurbish, or did you run
into a major problem with the engine?
