YOUTUBE UNIVERSITY for the win! Second time I’ve watched your videos and fixed it myself(last one was a starter). The only problem was the bottom tab for the reservoir that fits in the fan needed to be trimmed. But that’s because the fan was made in Taiwan I’m assuming and didn’t mold out correctly. Trimmed with a knife and boom! It fit. Thanks!

My fans turn on but they sound very weak when running. My car overheats but when i reach highway speed stops overheating. Could it be that my fan motor is bad and not running the fans at full speed?

I just did this job, but only after checking to make sure the relay and fuses were good. I did this by checking the relay female sockets in the fuse box under the hood (top left relay) against that same sockets ground. The relay has 5 sockets, and two of them go to their corresponding fuses, the second socket from the left goes to fuse #4 (20 amp) under the hood, and the first socket from the top/right goes to the fuse #14 (10 amp) under the dash. My last test was to use the plug from the AC condenser fan and plug it into the radiator fan to be certain. What this does is eliminate the entire radiator fan circuit, sensors, computer, wiring, relay and fuses, and uses the AC circuit instead to test if the fan is working. This is in case something in the circuit is bad after the relay and fuses, such as wiring or sensors, and is the easiest way to test for it. After running the AC for a minute, it still didn't come on, so I knew it was the fan that was bad. If the fan had come on, then I'd know, after having tested the relay and fuses, that it was either bad wiring or temp sensor.

Do you need to add coolant afterwards? Are you likely to spill? how do you add coolant correctly.?

KATHY W says:

I have a 01 civic dx. I just successfully put in the cooling fan with the help of you guys. You saved me 450$ and it took me an hours work. I am truly grateful.

FLexplorer says:

I found it unnecessary to drain any coolant on my 01 civic coupe. Just disconnected the top hose and wiggled out the old fan. Thanks for the videos, you've saved me so much money and time with your guidance.

isaac mathews says:

My civic is constantly over heating it only cools down on the freeway if I have the heater on it was plenty of coolant and I changed the thermostat .. could it be the fan ? Or another problem entirely

Carol McCain says:

Can you tell me where you purchased your fan? I need this exact fan and have not been able to locate one. I have found the other side cooling fan but not the one you have.

ofwanko says:

So, do I need to do a coolant flush before I do the job?
