The Honda shop told me I had a crack in the exhaust manifold on my Civic and that it was going to be expensive to replace. I probably could have taken it to …

I bought some QuikSteel to fix my crack and it said 2400F degrees right on
the package, but it only lasted about 1200 miles before coming out. Luckily
I had ordered a new manifold for my 2001 Civic because I discovered right
after repairing the visible crack in front that it was also cracked in the
back as well.

The people who find this stuff to crack is because it’s not very tolerant
towards vibrations.

QUICKSTEEL AND THERMOSTEEL ARE NOT THE SAME! Quicksteel is only good to
500degrees F. You can’t use it on a manifold. Thermosteel is good to 2400
degrees F. READ the friggin directions before you use things! I used
Thermosteel on one of the exhaust manifolds in my motorhome which is on a
Ford E350 chassis. It’s a 460 V8. Getting the manifold off requires
dropping the front suspension then the engine to the ground and chances are
very good that at least one bolt will break off in the head. So I used this
to fix the crack. That was about 5 years ago. It’s still on there and I
don’t think you could chisel it off it’s so hard. Like anything else you
have to follow the directions precisely and you have to prep, prep, prep.
Any job is only as good as the preparation. This stuff is used on
satellites in space so there’s no reason why it won’t work on an exhaust
manifold other than not preparing the surface properly and not following
the directions.
