Thanks for the good video on adjusting valves, It brought me to my real
problem. I thought I would let you know. I ran out of adjustment on the
exhaust valve. To get to the point I found the rocker arm pin was soft (not
heat treated properly) and had worn a third of the way through, losing all
adjustment. I had to ream the aluminum posts larger, make a new pin and
harden it and ream out the hole in the rocker arm to fit. It all works
great now. I wonder what a Honda repair shop would have done.

Hey alex I watch all your videos buy I’m having a problem with my gc 190
can you help me? look up my video “karcher g3050 oh misfire”

LUIS RAMIREZ says:

nice work alex i have a question? i swap my crankshaft after i hit it with
a cement block accidentaly. i set the timing like in the video do i still
have to adjust the valves if i didnt move them at all machine was working
perfect thanks

ShadowOps Media says:

Cool. Do you do this for a hobby or for work?

Alex S says:

Thanks for the feedback and I am glad you figured out that part. Next time
I will try for a better camera angle.

Robert O'BRIEN says:

Thanks Alex adjusted the valves as you suggested. it has made a great
difference to the starting, started 4 times first pull. Also checked the
decompression mechanism. Your explanation was very clear and easy to
follow. Many Thanks. Robert.

Alex S says:

Most likely a carburetor issue, even if it is new, drain all the gas,
replace the fuel lines, dry the tank, and clean the carb. Loose valves
usually make it harder to pull. Worst case scenario is that the mower is
just getting older and losing compression, but it wouldnt run well at that
point.

Thank You for a great job. I wasn’t quit sure where you were sticking the
screw driver to get to top dead center then I realized that you had taken
the spark plug out and you were in the cylinder. Great information so now I
need to check out my son’s GC 160 as it seems to be backfiring a little and
actually blowing a little gas back towards the breather. Keep up the great
info.

Brian Nickol says:

Thanks for the valuable information.

zixx91 says:

is it 0.15 and 0.2 in milimeters or in inches??

Alex S says:

Did you mean the GC-160 above or the GX series engines?

Dillon1791 says:

Very true. But hey, they still exist somewhere so there is still some hope.
I’m thinking about finding one and updating it a bit. Things like Custom
fab Intake manifold with Dual PGM-FI injectors. MBE Motorsports makes some
nice PGM-FI kits for small engines. R&R custom Billet rods and pistons with
a light weight flywheel. Some nice tweaking like timing advance and higher
compression + bore and I think it could be a torque monster. 🙂 Lets not
forget Dual exhaust.

Alex S says:

That would be very awesome! Get rid of the carb and get some fuel
injection, and plastic cams are a joke especially for honda. I did like
that they used bearings in the GX360 and many other cool features, but
problem was that they were overpriced and the box stores had beat them out
of the US market. What a shame.

Alex S says:

Thanks for the feedback! I am glad you succeeded and that the video helped
you out.

hardcoremofo says:

Here’s my symptom Alex. I have an HRX217 with new carb. It takes 10-12
pulls to start each day. Once it gets that going, throughout the day it
starts with 1 pull. Pulling is normal though. Is that a valve issue?

Ant. Wells says:

Nice work!, help a ton, I did not know how to set the timing. you made it
easy.

Smallgasengine1 says:

can you do a video on how to adjust honda ohv 5hp engine valves?

RockyPekoe says:

Thanks so much. This was very informative and well done. I always learn
something new from your videos. Keep up the wonderful work.

Alex S says:

Its my hobby, I often post more videos and do more repairs during my
vacations, that is why my video output is not always constant.

Dillon1791 says:

I wish Honda would make a 250-300cc Inline 2 again. Make it OHC or DOHC
with VTEC and PGM-FI option. Compact, light weight, 6,900 red line. Sounds
fun. Like a modern supped liquid cooled GX360K1 form the 80’s. lol. Cmon
Honda at least give us metal cam’s. I mentioned VTEC above. Maybe not like
the expensive VTEC system in their cars but maybe a VTEC that acts like the
compression release system but working oppositely at higher RPM.

Hamish Holewa says:

I agree – great video and very informative. Thanks very much!

swarfify says:

Thanks for that very informative vidio. I learnt a lot, but need to know
now how to strip the cylinder and remove the piston on a GC190 that is
frozen. Do you have a vidio?? Thanks,Chris.
