Honda GCV160 Gasket Order
Just a quick video explaining the order in which the gaskets for a Honda GCV160 are installed.
These Engines don’t have studs coming out of the block, so when you remove the bolts from the carburetor, the gaskets usually just fall out.
Then, when you go to put everything back together, you don’t remember what order they were in…
This video should help with that!

This video saved me a few bucks,it was very informative. Thanks for helping out, it is much appreciated.
Here I am in 2025 doing a carb job. Finally a video that actually mentions the large metal shroud. Thanks!
Asked someone on fb, installed everything correct but , it sounds like it’s running with choke open , not sure how to fix this .. Honda cgv160
Great video save me lots of time. Thank you so much.
Add me to the list of people this video helped. Thanks! Glad the guy who sold me the mower for $20 didnt see this first….
Thanks for this video! I really needed this. Next time, I'll use 6mm threaded rods to hold everything in place when I take the bolts out.
Awesome video, brother!! I had to refer back to your video a few times to make sure I put the gaskets on right. Finally got it. Poured gas and pulled mower 4 times and away I went!! No more surging. Thank you for the video!!
Thank you for this video! I also had the last two gaskets backwards. I turned them around and the mower wouldn't start. Then I realized that I had not moved the little silver thin lever that's on the left by the choke to the right. After I did that, the mower started right up. No more surging, and the choke works perfectly now and doesn't stall the mower when it gets to a certain point. I installed a new carburetor on this CC469 mower, plus several other normal tune-up parts, and now I feel like I have a new mower.
Omg finally! I've seen so many videos and yours is the first one that mentions some of these honda gcv engines have a metal gasket that's goes between the air box and the carb. I thought I was going crazy because I wasn't seeing anything about it online.
Great video, thanks for making it. I've replaced my Honda mower carb before but was unprepared for tracking the positions and locations of the gaskets — and there are a lot of them. Next time, I'll be watching this video while I put the gaskets back step by step.
What size and length are the carb bolts?
So helpful, you should get a medal of honor!!!
I’ve had my Troy Bilt with a GV160 engine for 14 years. As many times as I’ve rebuilt the carburetor, I still come back to your video for the gasket sequence. You explained it SO well in a clear and concise manner!
i do that also line up the hole or ballbearing it makes sense but those "air gaskets " as he calls them can sometimes be backwards having that extra piece on the top on the other side..in a video i jsut watched form him it was like that..but i figured as long as theyre lined up thats how it goes..my choke goes too fast and then the mower stalls so im going to have to adjust that i guess.. its nice sometimes if i have a mower for a bit that i find these problems that werent there when i fixed the mower..when i did maintence on it-it started right away and i wouldve sold it then the custimer wouldve had this problem , and me not really knowing this was an issue in the first place becasue it started first pull when i fixed it they probably wouldve thought id ripped htem off or soemthing..so i like to keep them for a bit to see if any of thes eproblems or issues arise after maintence
Thanks, what a life saver!
Thank you very much man. I bought a used mower with GCV160 and had to replace the carb as it was badly corroded. When I re-assembled it I found that it was leaking gas. Long story short turns out I did not tighten the bolts enough. On my model the air dam is actually metal which was confusing, nonetheless your video helped out a lot.
My mower has a metal that is shaped just like the air damn. Is this my gasket or do I need the one that comes with the kit ?
10/10 amazing video! Short, clear, straight, and to the point! Very informative and you cover every small detail! I just did an autochoke version and had my doubts but this helped me out! Also helped me on the free pressure washer i just got with manual choke
Confusing just use studs.
Awesome Man, Thanks So Much!!
Awesome video; never could really understand the proper sequence of these gaskets until now and totally different from what the exploded parts view show and never could get my mower to stop surging when I used the exploded parts view. Thanks for your help.
I have a GCV160LA1 S3B and it has an auto choke system. I wasnt smart enough to take a picture and didnt realize the 2 bolts held everything on but I essentially have a cover, carb, choke assembly, and 2 gaskets that get bolted in all together and the diagram drawing that I found isn't exactly like my mower b/c its showing all these other gaskets that aren't on mine so I'm trying to make sense of it. I just ordered a new OEM carb b/c it was only $15 and just bought some gasket paper and glue. My first time making new gaskets. Question – I have the 2 gaskets that fell off when I took the bolts out. One of them is a heat shield gasket like on your video. Is it better to make new gaskets tracing/cutting from the old gaskets or should i trace/cut from the part that the gasket sticks to?
Thank you! It helped a lot!
