This is my Honda Civic Coupe from 1994 and it is my daily; for this reason I drive it A LOT. Recently I have noticed that the car would sometimes have trouble starting, and when it was started the engine would intermittently cut out while on the road. This video shows the procedure for a diagnosis on a Honda for a crank, ‘sometimes’ start situation.

I have a 1995 sedan EX is this something I can try I have the same problem?

P.S. JDM says:

Hey, can you take a photo of both of the fuse box inside the cabin and the engin, I need the diagram of them, from the covers
thank you in advice 😉

michael valadez says:

When you had the key in the on position did you hear the relay click? I have a 94 civic and it was running and shut off now it won't start back up. When I have my key to the on position I don't hear the relay click.

cesar alvarez says:

could be aftermarket alarm!

I WAS DOING A SWAP AND
IT WAS TIME FOR START UP
MY SYMPTOMS WERE:
TURN KEY, NO CRANK NO START
MAIN RELAY TICKING VERY FAST (BUZZING)
ADEQUATE POWER AT ALL CONNECTIONS
DOUBLE, TRIPLE, 100X CHECKED WIRING HARNESS
RELAYS TESTED OK
NO BLOWN FUSES UNDER HOOD OR UNDER DASH
REPLACED IGNITION SWITCH
DID ANY AND ALL TESTS SUGGESTED ON
YOUTUBE, GOOGLE, AND FORUMS
AND STILL NOTHING.

AFTER TESTING EVERY INCH OF HARNESS
WITH A MULTI-METER, I DETERMINED THAT
THERE WAS NO CONNECTION FROM UNDER DASH
FUSE BOX TO STARTER SOLENOID.

THEN…
AAHHHHAAAAA!

**********ALARM SYSTEM*********

EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK
THE CAR, I WAS NOT LETTING IT START!

FOUND THE WIRES FOR THE LITTLE PROGRAMMING
BUTTON (my button was missing)AND TOUCHED THEM
TOGETHER, TURNED THE KEY
vvvVVROOOOOOOOMMMmm turned on

if u have an aftermarket alarm this may be the issue
and you should have a little red or black programming
button some where under the dash
find it and press it (again mine was missing so i touched the two
wires that would have connected when pressing the button)

will post this comment on a few of the vids i watched
wen trying to diagnose.
HOPE THIS HELPS AT LEAST ONE PERSON AND THEY
CAN AVOID THE HEADACHE I WENT THROUGH!

My starter is good an battery an alternator but when I turn my key over no click n won't start but when my car gets pushed an have it in gear it starts up its a 94 civic ex an its manual

Jorge Martinez says:

A little help plz. Got a 97 civic 1.6 sohc cranks but wont start. At first it had no spark so ended up changing the distributor and got the spark bu wouldnt turn on. Long story short ended up checking fuses, main relay, spark plug cables, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel injectors, crank shaft sensor and still nothing. Inserted scanner and it read backfire on piston 4 and 2 so checked timing and it turns out that timing was wrong. placed timing in correct position, Took engine head to the shop and checked valves, got a new head gasket placed everything in place and still no start. Any Tips and advice would be helpfull.

Great video and instruction. Mine is 1993 Civic with that same problem. The car cranks but can't start. I tried your method by cleaning the ignition switch. It works now. Thanks for great video and trouble shooting info.

Le Mecano Du Dimanche says:

Very good video; the issue could have been a sensor that tells the ECU the engine is running. in case it fails, ecu thinks engine does not run and cuts the gas. Anyway the ignition key procedure may help me troubleshooting issue I'm having on my '95 Accord. thanks

carlo mango says:

Typical sign of bad ignition switch is you start car, then almost inmediately car stalls

carlo mango says:

Possibly, ignition switch. However, first check battery static voltage. Check fuses if any blown, replace. Main relay sends signal to pump, but during hot days, contacts expand and connection is lost on circuit board.

Holly Nites says:

Good video…what year is your car though?

winston uceta says:

How do you remove the switch from the cables
