OK OK OK… i got up early and worked at getting the seat out of my 2001
accord ex…
make sure to tilt the seat back forward – and raise the seat bottom as high
as it will go – move the seat all the way forward to remove the rear two
sear bolts – move the seat all the way back to get the front two bolts.
disconnect the cars battery – unplugging the air bag and power seat was a
pain in the ass ! if i didnt know better i was sure they were glued
together because they had to be pried apart. next pull the seat out the
front door. now be sure to take photos of all parts you remove !!!
the side plastic trims were all #2 Phillips head – the seat back on my car
is bolted on one side but the other side is a peened over steel rod – so i
left it on. i removed the 4 lower seat cushion bolts to expose the frame !
the tube wasn’t broken on mine but the 2″ x 2″ plate that is right behind
it cracked in 1/2 !!!! i got a friend to weld that and i ran a 3/8’s inch
rod through the pipe you fixed and bolted it in place so that it won’t
break …. the photos helped me 2 hours later when i put it all back
together… * be sure to vacuum the carpeting and clean the seats sides
before to reinstall

it only has 315,000 miles on it !

Is this common on Accords? I have a 2002 that broke on me back in 2006.

My body shop has “tack welded” it a few times and it keeps failing.

In a pinch, the seat linkage can actually still operate by just using the
internal flex shaft without the outer housing. Just pull the shaft out of
the housing, and it’s then easy to insert it into the motor and gearbox
side to link together. There’s not a lot of torque on it when it operates,
so it is able to transfer the torque from the motor to the other side to
synchronize movement. The housing is too rigid to put back into place
without separating the sides for clearance.
Had to take the perfectly working power seat out of a 98 Accord ex v6, so
the mechanic could remove driver door panel (door stuck closed). He put the
seat back in bolted it down, now it only moves forward or back on the
inside rail…barely moves. The door side rail is the one is holding in
place. My seat is now all the way forward… barely able to drive it. Do
you know what he did wrong when replacing it? Please help if you have a
clue to the correct install.
I would consider taking it back to the mechanic. There is a flexible shaft
that is inside a plastic tube that runs to each side. Take a look under the
front of the seat and see if it was pull out during the repair. You can
move the seat to the highest position to aid in the viewing. Let us know
what you find
Mike, I have a 1999 Accord and the driver power seat is jammed-almost all
the way back. I read that maybe a coin could be stuck in the track. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.
Check the fuses by the drivers door.
I recently got a 96 accord and noticed that shaft and tube is missing too.
Thankfully the seat is where I’d want it but I want to find another one at
a salvage yard. There’s a place I’m going to tomorrow that says they have
one. Does the piece flex out to remove or would I need to separate the
rails? I want to be sure I bring the right tools to pull the part. I can’t
tell from pics how the plastic tube and shaft is put in.

The symptoms I was having were the seat would go down fine but coming up it
would only work rarely. It was caused by carbon on the contacts. I just did
mine and it works fine .I am a heavy guy and it works for me. Cost me zero
dollars and 30min.
I have the same issue with my seat as well, so I’m guessing the solution is
relatively the same, too bad I can’t weld to mend the crossbar

I have no power also. I checked all fuses and they are all fine?? Is there
another fuse somewhere or inline fuse possibly somewhere

My seat is just a little loose on the front left side. It jerks forward a
tiny bit when I brake. Any ideas mike?
Mike, let me add that you can fix the up and down motor many times by just
taking off the two screws that hold the motor housing on, and cleaning the
copper contacts that the brushes make contact with , with some steel wool
and alcohol on a qtip. be careful not to pull the assembly out or you will
have to put the brushes back in which is hard to do but possible. You can
unscrew the assembly out of the gear but don’t go too far or it will come
out. I did mine now it works 100 percent.
I have the same seat, my problem has to do with the adjuster switch no
working. While checking the switch with a circuit tester, I caused a short
circuit and now the entire seat does not move and i cannot get any power
coming into the wire harness. I checked the fuse under the hood and it was
NOT blown. Any ideas?
