Thank you for the post. My Honda Element is in Hawaii and I have a new door lock for it. I even changed the tumblers in it to match my master key (quite simple). But I have a question for you. When you disassembled the door and the lock, you had trouble with the "C clip", as you removed it inside the door. But when you reassembled the door, it appears that you installed the C clip BEFORE you installed the outside panel and bracket, putting them all together first. When disassembling the parts, would it not be easier to first unhook the control rod from the lock, then leave the C clip installed and remove the entire assembly out the door? If you installed it that way, why can't you remove it that way as well? Then you wouldn't have to mess with the C clip inside the door. Am I missing something?

Thank you! My door locks went out for the second time in my 2003 E and at over 300$ per door at the dealer last time I wasn't going to pay someone else again. Did the passenger side first and it was a snap. 15-20 minutes. The driver side gave me all kinds of problems getting the assembly back in trying to get that darn bracket in the right place. It definitely wants to go where it shouldn't. Great job!

Took me just over an hour! Saves a bunch of money!

You are a life saver just followed this and it works great! The only this I did different was reverse the steps putting it back together so I didnt push the cylinder back into the clamp until the bracket was lined up. Worked great! Thanks again!

Just changed the cylinder in my Element following your vid. Thanks!

Thanks you. You're generous with your time and mechanical skills to help us out here. My 2006 has the same problem. I can-do now with your vid.

Scott Thomas says:

Where did you order the locks and keys?

Zach Zbinden says:

Thanks for posting. Just replaced both locks in mine. Man, those c-clamps are no joke. Otherwise a simple fix. Honda wanted $150 to replace a single lock.

Keep the content coming captshark! Loving your vids. You're basically tackling everything on EOC so we can actually see what's going on! You're doing a great job with the narrative – it's keeping people like me well informed! I recommend an action cam that you can clip on a hat or something or really just anything that will keep your hands free. It will help tremendously when you need two hands.

I would have opted for keyless entry. Yep. That didn't cross my mind until my wife asked me. I found a unit on ebay for about $100 bucks. It was a true plug and play affair. I did not have to switch locks and simply rely on electronics to do keyless entry for me. In case if the car battery or keyless entry transponder battery dies, I will always have the rear hatch to enter from…
