Joseph Murphy says:

I buy the service manual from the dealer when I buy a new car. I bought the
service manual Honda when I bought my Odyssey. The service manual clearly
states to use anti-sieze. So who do you believe? Now if one is stupid idiot
and over torques the plug bad things can happen. Look at the pictures on
the NGK site. How much torque do you think it took to break off those
plugs?? You have to be a mindless fool to over tighten the plugs like that.

ChubbyJeff says:

Thank you. I looked this up for my 06 Pilot and you gave me the courage to
do this myself. Start to finish the job took less than an hour. I got a
quote from the dealer for $300 for this work.

Joseph Murphy says:

You missed something that is fairly important. The Honda Service Manual
says to apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the plugs when you
install them. This is very important because the head is aluminum and the
plug is steel. There is a very real chance that when you go to remove that
plug you will strip out the threads in the head. That would be a very bad
thing. The more the head heats up and cools the more it expands and
contracts on the plug.

edgezwater says:

Thanks for the video. Concerning anti-seize lubricant, viewers should read
this Tech Bulletin by NGK, search on NGK anti-sieze.

@rudanC Glad the video save you $!

I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I was debating whether
to do it myself or have it done. Your instructions were clear and got the
whole thing done in less than an hour. Thanks!

Matt Bartolomei says:

See NGK website for tech bulletin here regarding anti-seize.

Great step-by-step video. We have a 2007 Odyssey with 105,000 miles, and
after looking at the way the spark plug is mounted (hidden) in the engine,
I was a bit intimidated. I almost took the van to the dealership and let
them do it, but decided to google the process anyway and found your
video…it simplified everything. I will still go to the dealership, but
only to pick up the spark plugs and do the job myself. Thank you very much
for taking the time and sharing this video.

@redlense4 Awesome!

flysurf244 says:

@mcurtis7 Ur very welcome!

Matt C says:

I just did this on my 2004 and let me tell you… it was the easiest spark
plug change ever! Thanks for this video!

flysurf244 says:

@tillman40 Good tip tillman…..thnx.

flysurf244 says:

@klashy47 Cool! Glad it helped.

Good Video! These instructions will work for a 1999 Odyssey. I changed my
plugs today before I saw this video. The difference with the ’99 is that
the covers are a little different. Actually the ’99 covers are better
design you dont have to take the main cover off. Only thing I would add to
this video that I did was that I put never seize on the new plugs going in
to help with future removal. I noticed the original owner did not and the
plugs are crying to come out.

joshuam314 says:

Thank you for the video. I was stuck, couldnt get socket down in to grab
the old plug, OD too big, watched your video, shazzam, 5/8 not 13/16
socket! Really appreciate the how-to.

jemberwoods says:

Thank you! Your video is well made and helpful.

Sudhakar Dalvi says:

Thanks for this, I was not sure where are other 3 sparks plugs are on back
side of engine.I wish you have shown atleast one of the those from back
side of engine.

redlense4 says:

Great vid. I’ve got the same van. I changed my plugs this past weekend. It
was brainless thanks to your vid. I used Champion 7318 double platinum
plugs. She purrs like a kitten now 🙂

@elvismanrocks thx elvis

Very good video i have a 2002 honda and is good to have a video to refresh
in memory. Thanks and make more videos .

kalashnikov662 says:

sorry but when you say 13 lbs, is it foot-lbs or inch-lbs?

GreenMonochrome says:

Just did this for my 2000 Odyssey. Thanks for demystifying and removing any
semblance of rocket science. Gotta love it when someone takes the time and
effort to show others. May your kindness come back to you! Thanks God bless.

Is it true its best to remove wen engine is worm/ hot

qkster eyem says:

Flysurf: Thanks for posting this video. It was very helpful. I had changed
plugs before on my ’98 Accord but not on the Odyssey. I couldn’t see right
off where they were located. One thing I might mention which would be
helpful was how to take the old spark plugs out after you were done
unscrewing them. (I had to figure this out myself) I had used the spark
plug wire boot to pulling them out and put the new ones back in. It was a
good way to prevent striping the sockets. Thank for sharing.

I have a 2004 pilot and the last 2 against the firewall have no
clearance….it’s tough to get at so I changed 4 and will do the 2 toughest
next weekend.

flysurf244 says:

@QuangKimLe The spark plug wire boot is an excellent tip. Thanks for your
input.

flysurf244 says:

Good advice sanity and surely appreciated.

Murphys Luck says:

Great video. I got a 2001 and this video will help me greatly through the
process.

flysurf244 says:

@GreenMonochrome, Ha! Rocket scientist I ain’t! Thanks so much!

flysurf244 says:

@ElNoMos I’m not a mechanic but it probably wouldn’t hurt to have them
adjusted. You would probably hear them tapping if they did need adjustment.
My valves are running smoothly, no tapping, so I didn’t have them adjusted.

ElNoMos says:

is replacing the plugs alone ok? the honda dealership had advised me that a
valve adjustment is also needed after changing the plugs. thanks for the
vid and the response.
