Thank you so much! I just ordered it from the Honda dealer. I should have
read your earlier comment to see the part#. Honda dealer labors $$$ get
higher and higher in recent days. I am back to work on cars myself when I
can and so glad have someone like you who would share his expertise and
made such a nice and clear video. Still, I will send to my friend who is a
mechanic to perform this work, because I don’t like to deal with that nut
at the odd location and my city will be below freezing temperature. But I
am so glad to know the exact process from you!

dramakor says:

could you have filled the new fluid through the hole of the trans filter
while it was out.??

503productions says:

Thank sir for the detail video.

lambchopxoxo says:

ha ha! now i know why honda doesnt recommend changing the filter!

Hamdoon Hd says:

Nice and clear video, thank you
But would you please tell from where did you get the O ring, I went to the
dealer and different places but I couldn’t….is any info help to reach
this part, today I did first time transmission fluid change, I bought the
car almost 100k milage and I notice the the fluid is darker then after I
saw your video I was encouraged to do so, but I did not replace the filter
yet I’m thinking to do drain and fill for another couple of time and I’m
watching the fluid, by the way the fluid color and nature became little
better and of course is not like that was inside, but I filled with 3.5
quart as the manual saying but when I checked the mark I found the level is
low or on the low mark by the way mine is odyssey 04.
Thanks

Wilson Su says:

Same question as Hamdoon asked. Would you kindly tell us where/how to get
the o-ring you replace at 17:50 mark of this video? Thanks!

jhsung79 says:

Thanks for the great video with thorough step by step explanation. Im just
curious how much dirts and junks were inside of the old filter.

andrewmvenegas says:

BIG Thank you for your time to do this for us Odyssey owners.

worsethanchiggers says:

How far did you get? Did you get hung up at the point of removing the
battery tray?

Marcelo Delima says:

I gave up half way , they don’t make anything easy on these vans …

Enrique Delgado says:

Great video thanks 🙂 good job

Casey Van says:

You got a nice SHIRT.

Sansun Suresh says:

Thank you for the great video. Its all clear and I am planning on doing a
full drain and fill this fall. Before that I used the dipstick tube to top
off the ATF level.

50chrisgil says:

Who the hell would dislike this video..haterz

gary sunderland says:

good job .. even in a white shirt … big help thank you .!

golvcapi says:

Thanks for the comprehensive video, I appreciated it. Where is this same
ATF filter located on Odyssey 2000?

Jason Shrout says:

William (and anyone else), I’ve got a magnefine on my 2003 Ody as well. I’m
still not sure if I have it going the right direction though. What I’d like
to do is eliminate that stock filter and use the magnefine as the primary.
After installing it, my fluid is cherry red again (only took about 40 miles
to clear it up).

utricia hayes says:

hey enjoyed the video on changing transmission filter and fluids what would
be the thing to expect if i have 200,000 miles and has never had a
transmission fluid change

Dave M says:

The reason you are on the original transmission is because they only have a
2.2% failure rate as opposed to a normal rate of 1.5% average on any car.

worsethanchiggers says:

Thanks for the feedback and good luck with yours, too. Isn’t the trans
filter considerably different on an ’06?

sluggyjunx says:

I believe that at the point when the DIY on Odyclub was written (at least
when the 06’s came out) the indication is that after 05′ they all have the
external filter. I’m also interested in the Magnefine filters that many
talked about.

Dmytro Kovalskyy says:

Thank you a lot. As I understand Odyssey 2002 has also internal filter like
shown here /watch?v=EDasbHP9TyI . Am I right?

Luis Lara says:

Does the trans filter have anything to do with gear slipping? The
transmission on my 2001 Odyssey dies between 1st and 2nd. TCS light blinks,
as well as the D4 light. My dad says he thinks it’s just the trans filter.
I know nothing about this but that sounds ridiculous to me. Is he right?

ackack1 says:

I uploaded two pics to photobucket but am unfamiliar with how it works so I
hope you can get them. One is the left wiring clip (passenger) & the other
is the right (driver) clip.

pentearmacaco says:

I love this video. From now on, I’ll wear a pinstriped shirt when working
on the Honda, It’s clear why they claim “there is no ATF filter!” Some
disassembly required.

donzoh01 says:

My dealer parts guy told me that the transmission filter is only accessible
by taking the transmission apart. I did find the part on Amazon for about
20 bucks. My guess is the dealer doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

williamhoodtn says:

I did this same service on my 2003 Ody about 10K miles ago at 138K. One
recommendation would be to NOT pull that jet where the old ATF fill plug
(pre-dealer TSB) used to be. You can just fill the tranny, somewhat slowly,
thru the dipstick tube. Works great and allows you to not have to remove
anything on top of the motor/trans when doing a standard 3x drain/fill
service. I also added a 3/8″ Magnefine in-line trans filter on the return
cooler line about 45K miles ago (now at 148K).

Dave Chesak says:

Very well done. Excellent coverage of problem steps.

Thomas Tran says:

Excellent job. Thank you. I found the filter on Amazon.com for much less
than from the dealer. Will replace the filter next week along with a third
fluid replacement, @3 quarts each time on my 2004 Odyssey.

nestorrice says:

Hey you are the me.. I just changed my on my 2002 odyssey but I put the
oasis the oil at the dipstick is that bad?

worsethanchiggers says:

I’d be happy to look at your pictures and compare them to my experience. I
am curious what the differences might be within the same model year. Please
post them to some place like Photobucket and then share the link here.

Esuper1 says:

Excellent step by bolt action here. I did my sister’s tranny oil change and
used the dipstick for refill using a funnel and a length of hose that fit
the dipstick orifice. I was told thatthe filter on odysseys is
unserviceable and now I know better. Next time the filter is coming out.
Thanks again friend for taking the time to share this video.

ackack1 says:

I have an ’02 too. But the wiring connectors that affix to the battery tray
are different, I think, than the ones in your great video. The appear to be
much harder to remove. May I e-mail you some pictures so that you can
advise me?

worsethanchiggers says:

I’ve you’ve made it that far on the original transmission and fluid, you
have a guardian angel on your shoulder. Check the fluid condition. If it is
dark and smells burnt, it is too late and you should just leave it alone.
Doing anything now may accelerate the time when you will experience a
transmission failure. Drive it until it dies which could be tomorrow or 2
years. If the fluid is still cherry red and does not smell burnt, go ahead
and perform 3 full fluid exchanges or get it flushed.

Chuck Kremer says:

Excellent video. Thanks for posting…

Harvey Magsambol says:

Thank you!

hmichaelr1 says:

With four vehicles to maintain, I’ve watch quite a few of these DIY videos.
This is the absolute best one I’ve seen! The extra trouble you went to with
lighting and focusing the camera on critical steps makes all the
difference. If you aren’t an educator in some capacity, you’ve missed your
calling. Thanks for taking the time!
