Does synthetic fluids (Royal Purple) help prolong the life of our trannys?

D. Owen says:

Did you reuse the same gasket??

caio torres says:

would this be the same way for a 2001 chevy silverado hd 6.0L

cesar torres says:

If I start the truck before I put the 2 qrts of oil will I damage the
transmision

skulledmonte84 says:

yep!!! thats what i thought, thanks for confirming it though

1A Auto Parts says:

You may be able to, or if you can get a pipe wrench on it, you may be able
to remove it with a pipe wrench and replace it with a new bolt. Hope this
helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Jay bongwaters says:

Can anybody tell/show me how to do this in a95 Standard Silverado ? Or is
it about the same?

crime943 says:

u make it so easy ….. hard to belive that they want to charge 100 bucks
for that…. dammm ……. thx 4 the in site … good vid……….on the
vid with the transfer case motor can that work for a chevy blazer

chillicobra says:

Would this be the same for a 04 silverado 1500 4×4 ?

1A Auto Parts says:

The transmission filter should be changed to help extend the life of the
transmission and to help protect the transmission. It catches all of the
little metal particles that can wear out the transmission.

MercOilbuner says:

I wish my truck had a drain plug like that, all I got is an indent where
should be.

1A Auto Parts says:

@kckettridge You can wipe it down with some clean rags. It should look
pretty clean after you wipe it down.

PAMAROSHOUSE says:

tranny flushes are nortorious for post fluid change if you wait to do it
for a high milage tranny.you need to follow your manufactures recommended
interval.

1A Auto Parts says:

@pensacolasurfer I wouldn’t flush it as that may disturb some of the gunk
in there. You should be ok changing the filter and adding in some fresh
fluid.

1A Auto Parts says:

If the torque convertor doesn’t have a drain on it, the only way to do this
would be to have the transmission flushed. If it has a lot of mileage on
the tranny and it has never been flushed then you may now want to have it
done, due to issues that may come about from doing this. If you change the
filter and top off the tranny fluid you should be fine.

1A Auto Parts says:

You may be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to
your application. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

rcastanaga says:

Good video but… How do you do a full flush taking all the fluid out from
the transmission, torque convertor, and the cooling lines? It must be at
least 8 quart of trans fluid in there right? Any videos?

SMiller5488 says:

Just dropping the plug and replacing will take 4qts even, don’t bother to
even start the truck with less then 4 in it, you are just wasting your
time. I do this at every oil change…

Bruno Hallais says:

How would you complete the full flush? How would you remove all 11 quarts
of fluid, including the one in the torque converter?

1A Auto Parts says:

@crime943 Toughest part is those 2 bolts near the trans mount. Just takes a
little patience. Not sure which trans case vid you are referring to. I will
be doing one on an S10 in the future.

Jay bongwaters says:

Ok thanks so much for all the vids that you do they help a lot i would have
spent a lot of money at a mechanic if it was not for your vids so again
thanks and keep up the goodwork/vids 🙂

1961gonzalito says:

great video; I appreciate your time and effort. I have learned quite a bit
through these and other videos in the net. it’s great to find those sharing
their knowledge specially in times when you pay a good bit for everything
and money is not enough.

nwnate says:

Can you just pop the shift cable out of the bracket like that? I’ve read
that you have to loosen the two T40 bolts on top of the bracket? I’m scared
if I try to pry it out, I’ll break something.

1A Auto Parts says:

They can be on there a little snug. I’ve always had good luck using a
socket and ratchet with an extension as shown in the video. Hope this helps
some of you guys out.

elmo1257 says:

how in the hell did u get that drain plug off so easily. a bunch of others
and myself have stripped them because they come from the factory way too
tight… im gonna try some locking pliers now because its too stripped for
a normal socket

1A Auto Parts says:

At the beginning of the video we show you how to loosen it and move it to
the side, so that it’s out of you way. You can share this video on the
forums if you would like to, it would probably help some of those other
guys out.

Domenick Naccarato says:

How did you get the pan down and past the linkage bracket? I have an
Avalanche and that bracket doesn’t give me any room to manuever the pan
down. On other forums I’ve read people bending the bracket out of the way
but I can’t imagine that being a good idea.

1A Auto Parts says:

We currently do not have one that shows this particular procedure.

KeithKman says:

Great video. I got ll the parts and was going to tackle this project until
I couldn’t get the drain plug off. I have never seen a plug on so tight. I
used a 10 foot breaker bar, blow torch, and I still can’t get it off. The
drain plug is now rounded. I ordered a new plug and the truck is going into
the transmission shop this week to see if they can break it loose. What did
GM torque these drain lugs to from the factory?

skulledmonte84 says:

My dad has a 2004 Silverrodo Z71 it has the 5.3- 327,The dealer told him
they dont change the filter in them,You dont have to? The filters in them
are like a fiber one,All they do is transmission flush,!!! So whats the
deal!!! please help me, I think someones full of you know what lol

1A Auto Parts says:

We do not have an auto repair video that shows you how to do this, however
typically you run a hose from the return line to the transmission into a
bucket, after changing the filter and wiping the pan clean button
everything back up. Top off the transmission with fluid, start the truck
up, the old fluid will empty into the bucket, as that’s happening add new
fluid into the filler tube and do this until clean pink fluid comes out
into the bucket.Ask the dealer how many QTS for a total fluid fill.

Kody Darlington says:

If the fluid is change an fully synthetic fluid is used in it will it slip
an or cause problems ?

1A Auto Parts says:

Some of the basic procedures may be the same. If you have a Haynes of a
Chiltons manual for the vehicle, it should show you how to preform this
repair.

Catodonic says:

I did not see that your technique would necessarily purge all of the old
transmission fluid out of the transmission cooler radiator. How important
is getting rid of that fluid as well, and what’s the simplest way to get it
out?
