@rogerleos You’re welcome! They’re great vans. I ‘m happy to help keep them
on the road.

you can hear that a spark plug wire is leaking and hitting ground somewhere
notice how its running a lil rough ive seen these engine run smoother. if
you didn’t pass emissions you should of done a whole tune up. oil. filter.
spark plugs. wires. cap. rotor. maybe coil if it was weak you can check
that with what color the spark is. old oil smells like gas causing more
emissions specially on old cars like that. pcv valve. ail filter and clean
the M.A.F

Very helpful thanx

Thanks for these videos. They have all helped me a ton. I’m attempting to
bring my 86 Astro back from what I thought was the dead!

StLouisEarl says:

What was the loud ticking after you started it? Mine doesn’t make that
noise.

hoohoohoblin says:

I’m glad you were able to figure out the problem. Sorry I didn’t reply, but
I was out of town and wasn’t sure how to fix it.

hoohoohoblin says:

I haven’t done that before. If you do a search for “Astro van fusable link”
on the Internet, you will find a lot of info on forums. The answer will
probably be there. If it isn’t, you can post a question. If you do find a
solution online, make sure it is for the same year of van as yours, because
the design may have changed in different model years.

hoohoohoblin says:

You’re welcome.

Its great fun, an electra with the lean burn engine so i should sit at 60
all day, but i feel safer at 55 ish. Its looking like a very fun bike to
get to know, such a nice sound too. I did melt my trouser leg last night
talking to somebody and not paying attention, but my god its fun.

hoohoohoblin says:

@GAZAJED Awesome! I’m glad you like the bike so much. You’ll have lots of
fun on it. Don’t rev it too hard, and do your regular maintenance, and it
will run for a long, long time.

hoohoohoblin says:

You’re right about the corrosion on the cheaper caps. Mine got so bad that
it wouldn’t start.

hoohoohoblin says:

You’re welcome.

I sure wish you had a 1999!

Great van. My problem, I was changing the manifold gasket on my 96 Astro
van and messed up my timing; some how I turned the engine, now the
distributor want go back in the way I first took it out. I even turned the
rotor in the direction of spark plug #1 and tried to line-up the crankshaft
damper to zero. I don’t know if its me but there are no markings for me to
zero the crankshaft damper. anyone got any suggestion? Maybe someone did a
video with the solution to my problem? Thanks!!!

hoohoohoblin says:

Thanks! I will keep making videos as long as things keep breaking.

Hello!! Im having an electrical problem with my chevy Astro Van! I dont
know anything about fixing a car, nor do I have any $ to pay someone to
help me fix it! I am willing to do the repairs myself. Would you happen to
know how to fix a blown fusible link (second one from left) on connector
behind the battery. I need help!

hoohoohoblin says:

You’re welcome. I’m glad the Astro Van videos helped. These vans will run
forever you to take care of them.

GAZAJED says:

Hi, dont know if you remember me but i asked about your enfield a couple of
times a while ago. Well im now glad to say, partly thanks to your info
about the bike, after having passed my test thursday, sold my 50 last
night, just got home from my first run on my own bullet 500 electra x. My
god its good. I might do a video at some point, but its bed time, the bikes
is washed and asleep and i will be too. Thanks again, bye.

I replaced the cap and rotor on mine when I had the engine cover off. Mine
has a different cap and rotor design. I upgraded to an Accel cap with brass
contacts, since the aluminum contacts on lower quality ones corrode easily.
My cap was just over a year old and was corroded badly. Boy did that new
cap and rotor make a difference in how it runs. Thank God we don’t have
emission testing here though.

Bluestarwarrior1 says:

This video helped me learned how to change the cap and Rotor better. I did
this for one of the drivers at work.

hoohoohoblin says:

@Bluestarwarrior1 Awesome! I was hoping that people would find the video,
and it would help them.
