Well that is not what the procedure said to do, and I do not think there is an access hole, unless you make one!

Dan Hamren says:

Can’t you access the FP through the cabin?

i fixed the old pump cause it had a filter sock busted and alowed the bb’s inside the sock to pass into the pump just locking it up so i fixed it and putt new sock on after checking for broken pieces of pump turbine. found out were a connecter was on that third line and yes it was a vapor vent that goesback to the intake or the canister maybe not sure lol.

This was a while ago, So I am sorry i cannot specifically remember. Hard to visualize what you are talking about, kind of sounds like fuel vapar lines… Sorry I can’t help more.

im replacing a pump in a 1999 yukon same 5.7 ltr probly in that there but saying goes for this yukon about the lines and all fuelwise but theres another fuel line that is plastic and you can not take it apart at the frame were most of them have a connection or can lossen and this truck . it comes from a line up front inside clips above the tank tee’d in too other lines IMBEDED into the top of tha plastic tank. so there was 3 disconections of fuel supply i had.DID YOU HAVE THESE CONNECTIONS sir?

Autotechviewpoint says:

Yes better, in the fuel pump box from GM they give you butt connectors with heat shrink built in. Using that now.

Why would you not solder those splices? You think those butt splices are gonna hold up to corrosion eh. I think solder and heat shrink would be more ideal right.
