I would try taking out the sending unit and cleaning it. The fuel pump
assembly can run 400 bucks or more.

Imbyteme says:

Thanks it was refreshing to find someone that calls the pump a pump and not
a sending unit being called a fuel pump .

JRobert111111 says:

Do you do this job for any customers? My sending unit is going bad as the
gauge is going crazy when over 3/4 full and pegging at a 3 o’clock position
which I’ve never seen it reach before and waving around. Down at 3/4 it
settles down and behaves fine from there on down. The pump has well over
100K on it so obviously that would need to be changed too. It’s a 94 Astro
with the Z engine, and I’m in your area. Looking around first week of Feb
2014 to do this. Any recommendations, or what is your price? Thanks, and
great job changing out that pump in a parking lot. My 93 Astro has 272K
and one pump change, and the 94 has 364K and two pump changes, but never a
sending unit change on either. Luckily the pumps failed at home, so had
AAA take to the dealer; but money’s tighter now so I’ve got to cut the cost
down somewhat.

Cut a hole in the floor. That’s what i did. Easyer

Chris Cooling says:

you left out cutting a damn access panel so you never have to do this again

ScottysDetailing says:

I would not cut a hole you could start a fire i would Just do it the hard
way.

J.R Saunar says:

Hi I have a 95 astro and the engine shut off on me when im driving and I
notice it happens when I brake hard or going downhill. Also the odometer on
my gas is never settled. The needle goes up when I accelerate then goes
down when I brake. It only settles in when im stop. Could the reason the
engine shutting down is because of the fuel pump? The batteries are good
the engine is in great shape. It always starts again whenever It shut off
on me.

Cut a 12×12 flap Peel carpet Cut a hole in floor neatly , ,use some hinges

Chris Cooling says:

they must be using a kit to just replace the pump part like in this video.
the fuel pump assembly goes for $150 for the cheap aftermarket ones to $300
for the AC Delco

Jason Weaver says:

My fuel pump just went out in my GMC Safari Van… I’m curious about the
cutting a hole in the carpet trick? Does this work? I was quoted $300 to
get this fixed… I really don’t want to put that much money it this old
rig… Some please advise… jason(at)idahopcsolutions(dot)com Thanks!
