This is exactly what happened to me 16 years ago with my supra. Couldn’t afford to have mechanics fix my engine, so I removed, rebuilt, and installed it myself over a period of a year or so. Made a lot of mistakes, learned more, but it started and ran on the 2nd rebuild haha.
Fast forward to me being an exotic car mechanic building race engines for shops now after the course change for me.
Just take your time and don’t move forward if you’re unsure. Stop and ask questions. The support there is out there today is crazy good compared to what I had
Take pictures before you take anything apart every step of the way take a picture so that if you are not sure of where something goes, you can look back on your pictures. They will help you out.
My hope is that we eventually put all shops out of buisness by being so self sufficient that only the shops who avtually charge what a job isnworth can survive.
That is about a two day job from morning till evening next day for 1 guy to do in a shop, faster for 2, not worth 7 or 8k for any shop but the dealer will ask that everytime.
Some smaller more realistic shops would be happy to get 2,500-4,000 for that job.
Dude, get one from junkyard for like 2000 bucks. Just make sure you change timing belt water pump all the gasket and you be good oh and thermostat.

If its diesel check the block if its petrol also double check the block its good practice us a surfaced object and some feeler gauges
Stop buying large cab trucks where half the engine is underneath the dashboard
Get ready to pull the cab…

Could get a whole good condition junk yard engine with the head gaskets already installed and good for less than that………
Jesus Christ its just head gaskets just change them yourself its easy and cheaper
Dam that’s a crate engine. A nice one
