2010 GMC Denali Road Bike – Bottom Bracket Replacement

Since many people were griping about me not doing a tutorial about replacing the bottom bracket on my old Denali Road bike, I figured I’d make a full replace…

Thank you very much! That was exactly what I needed!

jessestylex says:

couldnt you just get new bearings for the old crank?

Frank Chow says:

What size is that bottom bracket?

NightzelMusic says:

this is EXACTLY the video I needed! I bought a denali a couple weeks ago
and the bottom bracket has already worn out. question for you: You said
that the 122.5 was a bit shorter than the stock one. should i order a
127.5mm?

Grizzly907LA says:

Thanks for the tutorial. I just got my Denali, and theres some play in the
crank, not as much as yours but and I am getting a creaking/clicking sound
as well. I am just going to get a sealed bottom bracket next month and not
worry about it.

CyclingSports2013 says:

The price is good for short distance and occasional use but not regular and
long distance. Its hard to get speed, feels like takes too much effort to
pedal, not such a smooth ride, and I don’t like the weight balance. It
needed a tune up after 2 years, which is good last, but they couldn’t get
rid of a clicking noise that surfaced. Have needed tire repairs a few
times. here is the link to it in case anyone is interested:amzn.to17XqUzn

BikeGeekMTDX says:

The 122.5 works fine. The stock size on this bike, at least for the newer
ones, is hard to find. Just order a 122.5 and you’ll be set.

Cube Computer Channel says:

Replacing the tires first thing along with the tube protectors with better
quality tires and protectors helps make this bike perform better. I agree
with the red 2013 model… it’s geared WAYYY too low. I saw one in Walmart
yesterday and noticed that the lowest cog was like 14T. They used to be
12T. You can replace the freewheel for like $20, or better yet, buy an
Aeromax wheelset and cassette. That makes the biggest difference vs stock.
Now my bike is MUCH lighter than a stock Denali.

BikeGeekMTDX says:

Look through the comments, as I have already answered this question for
someone else. The Shimano BB-UN55 works well on these.

Cube Computer Channel says:

All you need is a new 7-spd 12-28 screw-on freewheel. You can find them on
Amazon.

traingp7 says:

Have you ever thought of taking the frame to a bike shop to have the bottom
bracket chased and faced? If not you should have it done because chances
are good that bottom bracket shell needs it because it wasn’t done
correctly at the factory giving that is a cheap walmart bike. Having that
done will ensure the left and right side of the shell is in perfect
parallel and will ensure you don’t wear your new bottom bracket out
prematurely. It’s worth the few bucks they will charge you for it.

kenzo4000 says:

Hey, what bottom bracket did you replace with on the 2006 blue GMC denali.
I have that model and wanted to change a few parts, specifically the crank
arm which looks heavy as hell, and the pedals. I know some of these parts I
can get for pretty cheap, but i’m not even sure where to start.

Renato G says:

What camera did you use to record the video?

andrew white says:

i’m in the process of removing my bottom bracket. stuck on the 2nd ring
that is not the lockring. anyway, i was looking inside the housing and
there are two holes leading to different parts of the frame. so all of the
dust, debris, etc literally falls right into the housing. it is no wonder
the stock bottom brackets fail

Cube Computer Channel says:

The original bottom bracket is really cheaply built. The Shimano sealed
units last much longer. I have yet to have to replace one.

go7roo7 says:

I just cleaned mine yesterday, found a sprocket in the rear is missing on
the lowest gear. Any idea what company makes replacements?

Cube Computer Channel says:

The box that my new BB came in states the following sizes: 68mm BSA and
122.5mm. I believe the first number is the length across the bottom of the
frame’s bottom bracket tube and the second number is the shaft length. Note
that the original bottom bracket on this bike has a shaft slightly longer
than the shaft on the replacement BB that I used, but the replacement
worked just fine. The exact model information listed on the box above the
barcode is “BB-UN55 122 BC137 68” Hope this helps.

Renato G says:

Excellent video quality and description.

wigglyfruitcup says:

why would you do that? youll damage your crank.. just spend $10 to be safe

Neat trick to remove a crank after the bolt is removed recommended by my
son-in-law…..ride the bike in the driveway back and forth and the crank
will loosen by itself in a minute or so. I also put some Liquid Wrench on
it and let it sit overnight since I started working on it late in the
evening. Saves some bucks on the tool…..

I haven’t had any issues with replacement bottom brackets wearing out on
these. I’ve already put 700 miles on this bracket and it still works like
new. The bottom bracket that I installed on my 2006 Denali road bike is
also still working just fine and that BB had over 2000 miles of use on it.
The frames on these are built very well and are backed by a lifetime
warranty. I could easily see the Next, Roadmaster, and Mongoose bikes from
Walmart needing the procedure done.

BikeGeekMTDX says:

Those 700x38c tires are more suited for hybrid bikes. The bike comes with
700x32c which is approaching the limit on tire size. An ideal size for this
bike would be 700x23c-700x28C The seat should work fine.

THANK YOU VERY MACH !

budgetbassboy says:

Do you know the exact size/dimensions of your new shimano bottom bracket? I
have a May 2012 model with over 350 miles on it, and I put about 100 miles
per month on the bike. I would like to go ahead and buy a spare sealed
shimano bottom bracket for when the original one wears out.

Дмитрий Мотов says:

Tell me ,please, how do you think ,can i use this bike with tires
continental 700 -38 , and BELL MEMORY FOAM SADDLE from Walmart ? Answer me
, pleasa !
