Well this was supposed to be a short video!
This worn out GM Diesel was built in September 1940 and has had a long hard life since then. Many components have been swapped out over the years.

Great video Mike! Did you end up selling your shaper?
I turned my head phones to maximum so it was like the real thing….:) That chuckle from Mike at 57:14 I've been there!! Great video Mike
One of the most dependable engines made.I've worked on a lot of the 71 and 92 series. They love starting fluid when they get tired.Good video
I would love to see a series on the rebuild of this engine.
I'd love to see what that engine could do with a full rebuild! I'm guessing it'll probably need new cylinder liners/pistons/rings, in addition to the crank grind and oversized bearings. I take it those old engines didn't have glow plugs, hence the need for the torch in the intake.
…. shoveling soft coal in that GM…..
So those are both exhaust valves? 2 stroke huh… haha mildly confused I think I get the general principle where’s the air hole tho… cylinder wall still?
Well it looks like you got the engine running AND sprayed for mosquitoes at the same time. How can you not like that ?
Turning fuel into noise (and smoke) since 1939
at 53 mintues I like how you emerged from the smoke.
why didnt you just use ether these things love it

Another great video Mike! I wasn't sure she was going to fire up there for a minute but I should've known better.
Diesel Creek has just done a Detroit Diesel video the engine came out of a steel mill 35 hours on the clock https://youtu.be/cT5SQx7HhQA
I've seen these on Ritchie Bros & was intimidated by the size, 2cycle, and where to put it. Congrats starting it…what are your plans overall? OH, maybe nxt time where a mask and a neon green jacket so we can see u…LOL
LOVE WATCHING
Those Detroit’s always run…..I would be surprised if it didn’t run
Any news on that old forgotten Onan engine that was in the bushes?
It's a Jimmy of course it will run awesome 2 cycle engine they made a gazillion of them and put them in everything .2-71,4-71,6-71 great motors , for safety sake change out the Blower seals on a older motor is the smart thing to do the will suck engine oil out of the pan and run on that ,Yes you guessed it a Jimmy run away and they will scream. I sent a copy of this video to my friend who had a Allis Chalmers HD9 with a 4-71 so he can do a proper injector tune on his ,that Dozer sounds sweet wound up in the woods when he's logging .
Awesome and informative as always. Thanks for doing these videos!
