good stuff :)
I have a 2000 gmc savanna same motor and need to know where its located
please thanks
Thnx 4 the tip u just saved me 80 bucks that I can spend on something else
on my engine…..appreicate ya taking the time to post helps alot of us
I agree if the sensor is not hitting then it does not need shined. Have you
checked the sensor its self
Do you still have a sensor? Really just need the O.D. of the sensor to know
what the I.D. of the shim needs to be.
I do not have one to measure, but some take more than one shim. You only
need to shim if it is hitting. Mine was hitting pretty hard so I used a
piece of thin black gasket material. No harm in shimming out as it will not
hit anything. Most of the time i have ran in to the need to shim is when a
plastic cover has been reused. If you do not see where it is hitting it may
not need shimmed.
no your vid is well explained ,the time cover was not replaced sensor just
crapped out ,put new one in and fired up this guy was tost i just got my
self obssesd with shim cause a four dollar fix was better then 100 but
cover was not replaced so it was my bad not listening thanks for vid
Thank you. It’s a friends vehicle that I’m going to take a look at tomorrow
to help them out. I suspect it will need to be shimmed. McMasterCarr has
0.020″ thick shims, 25 for $6 and I can get them in a day. Cheaper than
Autozone at $4 each and then I’ll have enough to give away to others. Just
wish I knew for sure the size.
If I could trouble you, do you still have a shim left over that you can
measure? Looking for the I.D. and O.D. dimensions so I can either make my
own or buy my own shims. I think the I.D. is 0.75″ and the O.D. is 1.00″
but I’m not sure. Have a Jimmy that is throwing a P0335 code.
The size would be determined by how much it needs shimmed.Just add till you
are sure it does not hit but not to far out it will not pick up signal.
Electrically not yet. No running issues, just the code. Going to get a used
one at the junkyard to try.
Maybe a local parts store would let you measure one there.
I measured the part tonight. Definitely a 0.020″ shim, 0.75″ I.D. 1.00″
O.D. will work. Can get these from McMasterCarr for $6 for 25 qty.
Unfortunately the PO335 error is not due to the reluctor hitting the sensor
on the Jimmy – no witness marks. Depth to reluctor is 0.74″, depth of
sensor is 0.70″. Looking elsewhere for my PO335 problem.
Yes for thickness, not for I.D. / O.D of the shim itself. Going to buy
0.75″ I.D. shims and keep my fingers crossed they’ll work.
Thats real interesting and good information to know about. Thx for posting
the information to help the rest of us troubleshoot and fix these problems
that develop from time to time. Cheers OLDDUDE
Very cool ! BTW I got your sticker and will get a video of it up soon !
after talking with gm i installed as is ,fired right up runs like a
champ, just letting you no ,u buy a sensor dont get the shim its not needed
on after market sensor ,great vid just letting u no
Thanks
i just wanted to drop a line the video was help thanks ,but i have a 2003
s-10 pickup zr2 4.3 would start but die then it wood not start this sensor
was bad but after searching around i got sensor but no shim ,had to be
ordered called my local gm service dealer tech said there is no buliten ,he
said the bulliten must have been pulled ,the after market sensors do not
need the spacer, they have fixed the problem with these sensors the prob
depth is different ,so tried shim but it ran like shit ,
good tip
thanks for watching
So I take it that the sensor picks up a change in magnetic feild as the
crankshaft goes past?
Cool glad you found the fix. Those plastic covers sometimes have a mind of
their own.. Thanks for watching and commenting
really cool info……tony
mr sensor needs to be put in his place with a shim of course lol cool
shtuff terry

That’s something I don’t want to forget! Thanks for the info.

Cool.
It took me a while to find the correct diagnosis for my engine, same
problem as yours. Unfortunately my timing cover has never been replaced and
my engine has roughly 335000 miles on it. I did use the shim GM part#
12565102, at some point I thought the original problem was the tone wheel
moving, turns out as you stated the plastic timing cover warps/cracks, when
the engine gets good and hot it set a different air gap at the tone wheel.
This causes p0339,336 to set on the dtc or MIL. Good video.
Thanks for your help i fix mine by watching your video
Good video as always!
Thanks for watching
Most of the time you do not need the shim . You are supposed to replace the
cover everytime it is removed. Alot of people try and reuse the cover and
most times if shims are needed , that is why. So if the sensor goes bad you
most likely able to just replace. I got the bulletin straight from GM for
the 4.3 , so not sure why they could not find it. Sorry if i confused
people with the video , I thought i had explained why i had to shim ,Thanks
for watching.
I had to do the same thang to my chevy
thankx for the tip,good stuff
Good to see a vid from you sir!
