How do you know if you need to change the gasket? My GM 3800 started making this ticking sound and many people keep saying it’s just that it needs more oil or timing belt might be a bit loose. However I have no car errors.

man this is such a difficult task sucks i don’t have experience with cars yet. bought a car and one month later i’m paying for this type of repair.

Did you replace the lower intake gaskets with plastic ones or aluminum one,I’m replacing my this weekend and am not sure what o should use?
There are fairly simple fixes for this, not a huge concern for folks who maintain their cars.

I overheated as the rad broke but it runs very well NO SMOKE or STEAM from the exhausT .
BUT TAKES A LOT OF WATER i HAVE TO FILL UP QUITE OFTEN OR IT OVERHEATS every morning I put is 2 1/2 litres of water and its Ok for 100k or so

I am driving a 1997 Grand Prix GTP and I have a problem with the engine. I’m losing the oil, and Its mixing with the coolant. Maybe someone knows why?

I am driving a 2004 grand prix gt with 230k miles and i just had my valve covers replaced. I am still hanging on with this car, i bought it brand new and its still getting me all over florida!
yeah its a headache. I dont drive it anymore because it doesnt run long before it cuts off. I think the block might be cracked, but im not sure. I dont want to throw it away because they dont make Pontiacs anymore. My car is a 2001 Bonneville. What year did you buy?
You may want to get your engine checked out ASAP. The 3.8 liter Pontiacs have a history of engine compartment fires, especially the supercharged models. It’s caused by oil leaking onto the exhaust components and starting a fire. There are hundreds of blogs online about people pulling into their garages and 10 minutes later their cars are ablaze. Unfortunately, I just bought a used one with the supercharged engine and I had no knowledge of this problem…
I have a 3.8 and I think it might be time for a new engine. Does smoking from the engine under the hood mean a cracked block? The car smokes from the engine even when its cool and Im not sure what the problem could be. At operating temp of 200 the car only goes to 50 and then loses power. After it starts to lose power, it completely cuts off. The car wont start again until its cooled off
quick question, was it break cleaner you used to clean the lower intake manifold gasket housing near the lifters to get a better clean so the gaskets stick better? if not what did you use in the spray can.

I was watching this to see if I could tackle a lower intake gasket replacement in my driveway. The answer is a solid NO! This one is beyond my skills, great vid though and good job.
Also if you need to get to a head gasket on these can you use a push rod removal tool and then once the rods are out you can just go for the head bolts while leaving the valve spring untouched? Is that possible? Then the head would just lift off with the springs untouched?
is it really necessary to turn the engine over without fuel and spark to build up oil pressure? How long did you have the car sitting without oil?

Can you please tell me where the coolant drain petcock is on this 3.8L?? I looked everywhere under the car and couldn’t see it.
Do I have to remove that stupid plastic piece on the bottom of the car?
Why did you need to replace the lifters on this car? Was this for fun or was something wrong? If so what was the symptom?
can’t I spray the valve cover and intake manifold with engine degreaser and rinse it off? Or is that a bad idea, mine has oil and dirt all over it
