Thank you for the video, cost me $1.99 and 15 minutes of my time, worked
great!

hello, and thank you for the video. I bought the correct bulb from my GM
dealer for $6.18. But while I was waiting for it to be ordered I used a
replacement bulb and socket assembly used in Freightliner trucks. Its cost
was $0.81. The part numbers for it from a Freightliner dealer is
VDO/A2C52097892 or 4923090025.

What is this tool called to take the brown bulb part out. I’ve tried plies
and screwdrivers but it is just stripping my brown piece.

moparmania74 says:

tlrubino16 says:

did you solder the new bulb in after you bent the wires to the side ???

I just opened the stereo before I saw the video but did not know what bulb
to put in. I refuse to pay 14 dollars for a 1.99 part. now I know what bulb
to put in…….12v 60mamp…………..Thanks man. It is amazing that with
a small bit of knowledge and the determination to do it yourself ( and
research how to do it), how much money you can save. This would be about a
50-100 dollar job at GM.

tlrubino16 says:

thanks again….. about the electrical tape …. i make sure not to short
it out 🙂

matttafakt says:

I replaced the bulb.. still doesn’t work. I checked my old bulb after i
installed the new bulb and my old bulb works.. i shouldv’e checked it 1st
but i assumed it was burnt. New bulb works when i apply 12v to it. I tested
the circuit board and it’s o.k. What the heck? Any ideas or answers would
be very much appreciated.

Blaise Rienzo says:

@tlrubino16 Almost forgot, whichever method you use, make sure no metal is
sticking above the plastic base. If it does it can short against the
chassis of the stereo. I also placed electrical tape over the plastic to
ensure it didn’t happen.

MY HUSBAND USED THE 1.99 BULB, BUT SHORTED OUT THE CIRCUIT. WHAT DOES HE
NEED TO DO NOW?

allnovieveryday says:

Turns out they soldered on my brown piece so I can’t remove it. What can I
do now?

Geoff Szilagyi says:

I might have shorted it out, i didnt put tape over the top of the plastic,
and now the light stays on constantly, even when the car is off??? any
ideas?

Blaise Rienzo says:

@GeoffJaymes That is not a problem I have encountered personally, though
this Radio was being installed into a Pontiac Fiero so the wiring harness
is modified. I did find references to that issue in Malibus with the
Retained Accessory Power not shutting down properly, and in GTOs with BCM
issues. Is anything else lit up or just the stereo?

artistmac says:

How to pry the face loose from the chassis was giving me fits. Thanks for
this video.

WolfRanger2008 says:

Thank you very much for the clear, well presented video tutorial. It is
just what I needed.

Blaise Rienzo says:

@tlrubino16 I believe when I did this, I did not solder them on but just
wrapped the wire tightly around the mount so it would contact on the board.
Later repairs I did solder. Unfortunately the PC where I had the source for
this video failed so I no longer have all the details, or the commentary.
