I bought a cheap spring compressor from AutoZone 20 years ago and it still works fine.. less than 20 bucks
My friend drilled a 2nd hole on an edger blade and he's used it a bunch of times.

You can buy factory made spring compressors just for that situation just go down to O'Reilly auto parts and they will rent you one for free
