Amanda Sailsbury says:

Im sure they were more concerned with labor cost than the cost of the part
itself. Regardless they fucked up and should have to pay the piper. How is
thos happening in America. How were they able to get away with it for 13
years?

Kilgore Trout says:

Why is there no GM executive facing death sentence for the murder of 13
people?

montez1031 says:

Next we’ll hear people from China making fun of “Made in America”
products.

DoubleM55 says:

If you drive american cars, you kinda expect that :)

pnukup says:

I’d be willing to pay the extra dollar to be sure the car won’t kill me

jason666king . says:

Counterpoint: true accountability would be that A) GM was sued to the point
of no return, and B) nobody ever bought (demanded) a GM car moving forward.
But hey, people are too fucking stupid for that solution to work.

thatsnotagoodidea says:

2005? How did the government not learn about this when we took them over
after the great recession of 2008 in order to save american jobs? This is a
disaster for the american people.

Jovan Mitrić says:

Who’s the CEO, Scrooge McDuck?
I am sticking with Japanese and European cars, thank you.

dav3fk says:

As long as the car’s in gear, you shouldn’t lose power brakes or steering,
as long as they’re on traditional vacuum and hydraulic assist systems.

Wait scratch that, nowadays people drive unsafe child’s transmissions…
well anyway, you could drop into second and regain those powers, if you
thought fast, on an automatic.

LQQJ says:

capitalism in its best.
a human being to a capitalist is merely a potential profit.
Just remember that the Govt, saved GM from bankruptcy using your own money.
How Amazing !

gantmj says:

What works on any car when it stops running? It’s not important to list
things that stop working, because it’s the same for the majority of cars.
It’s sad that people had no idea what to do when their car shut off. When I
had real crappy cars when I was younger, I never died when they stopped
running while I was driving. Just think about how many trips the 3 million
cars have made over these years, and only 13 or less of those trips ended
in death. If you were driving, and any one of many things went wrong, and
your car stopped running, what would you do? Of course the power assisted
steering will stop working, what did people do before power steering? The
brakes won’t stop working all together, so it’s not like you can’t use
them. It is a problem though, that everything in the car will loose power
(unlike when an engine has a problem and stops), and that the airbags won’t
deploy. But if you think about it, how often should a car shutting off mid
drive result in a situation that air bags are needed? It is very sad that
people didn’t know what to do when their cars stopped working, and it
resulted in deaths. If your car stops running, the hazard lights will
always work, and you can pull over to the side. Also, put your car in
neutral so you can drift farther.

MilitantAntiTheist says:

Another fine example of the free market at work. I’m sure the excuse
Libertarians will give is that if it weren’t for the bailouts, there would
be no GM, as that’s not a truly free market system, and is crony
capitalism.

Another fuckin reason I’m keeping my 96 suzuki Swift

James Smart says:

This is not to mention the dealership staff that now look like idiots
through no fault of their own.

Stikibits says:

Nah…you have to put people before profit.
It’s not fine to put money before people.

so which car exactly

YY4Me133 says:

It looks like nothing’s changed since the Ford Pinto’s exploding gas tanks.
This is what we get when we allow our employees to serve corporations
instead of we the people. Oh, corporations are people? Good, let’s charge
GM with thirteen counts of manslaughter. As far as I know, there’s no
statute of limitations on that.

Michael Ledford says:

I work in automotive, this is the norm if you allow purchasing to push
their KPI driven agenda. Otherwise, a dollar now saves a billion later.

exxinferis24 says:

yup corporations are just like people my friend

…really shitty people

K Glennon says:

But every once in a while your car
Wil fucking kill you!
That had me cracking up

MegaWobblehead says:

ford did the same with the “Pinto” .

MandyDoll says:

This is sickening. Those poor families.

blindbrick says:

Its like the Ford Pinto Scandal all over. Ford thought it would be cheaper
to pay off possible lawsuits for resulting deaths, than to fix the gas
tanks.
