GM Air Conditioning Pressure Switch Problem and Replacement!!
Don’t Charge Your A/C Till You Check This!!

In this video I fix an issue I was having with my GMC Envoy air conditioning system. While most of the time the a/c works fantastic, I was having a peculiar issue where the compressor would shut down for no good reason. Upon some investigation I came upon what’s called the low pressure switch. This typical GM air conditioning pressure switch monitors the refrigerant pressures and if there’s a problem it’ll shut down the compressor in order to protect it. You can imagine, if this part malfunctions, the compressor will act irrationally. This irrational behavior is what I think was happing to my system. Those it wasn’t very often, it seemed to happen at the worst times. I swapped the pressure switch for a brand new GM ACDelco unit and so far we’ve not experienced the issue again.

Low side usually go bad before the high side? Are they interchangeable? Or it’s the same part?

cntrl scrutinizer says:

You could've scaled down this video in at least half the time to make your simple point. FYI people want the info short, and to the point!

Stuart Newman says:

What a brilliant video. Subbed thankyou very much.

Fernando Rodriguez says:

Great video. I replaced mine on my 2011 Cadillac SRX, but it’s still working on and off. Next I will be replacing the wire harness to the AC pressure switch.
You think it’s a bad harness? Or perhaps the low pressure switch?

*On my YouTube channel I uploaded a video on how to replace the AC pressure switch on the Cadillac. Stop and show some lov. Peace

I have this problem currently on my 08 Envoy. Before finding your video, I replaced the low pressure switch. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem. I honestly believe it's the high pressure switch and I am having problems locating it under my hood. I was hoping your video would have at least covered the location of the second switch ad it was mentioned in the video that if replacing the first could possibly not fix the problem. Any advice as to where I can find a diagram or a picture of the location to help me out? Thanks in advance.

The first thing to do is say a little prayer that the schrader valve holds, or someone didn't remove it at some point.

UNKNOWN UNKNOWN says:

what could cause a ac compressor clutch to NOT disengage?

Steve Wilder says:

Thank you so very much for this. I am retried and on SSI. I could not afford to take my 2005 Chevy Silverado to a mechanic. It has been 100 degree days here in NC. I did go purchase the pressure switch, and guess what? It worked!!!! I am very indebted to you for this video.

Efren Saclolo says:

My honda accord sometimes does that, but turning off the A/C for 2 minutes the cold air comes back,It's been like that for 2 years now,Could it be the pressure switch?

Charles Washington says:

I wish you would explain where that pressure switch wiring circuit is in the ac circuitry

StndbyHD1 says:

my 08 5.3l envoy ac shuts off hot air if I shut off vehicle and restart it kicks back on haven't thrown manifold gauges yet but just curious

Mick Jager says:

So is the high pressure switch the one on the back of the compressor that's held in with a snap ring?

Mr Funguy says:

hi i have a pontiac g6 2008 ecotech and all the sudden ac not working and temp guage went flat all relays are good and no codes any ideas

MAURICE SMITH-ZIEGLER LOOKS THROUGH THE FISH BOWL says:

I have a 2016 chevy colorado. At about 50k it started randomly blowing hot air, but would always blow cold again after five or ten minutes. It seemed to progressively get worse and eventually stopped working altogether. I took it in and was told there was a leak in one of the pressure fittings on the hose. That was replaced and the AC worked again for a while and then stopped. I took it back to the same place and now they tell me the condenser is bad and needs to be replaced for $1,400. Is this making sense? Do you think it's possible this pressure sensor could be the issue? Is it worth trying, or just trust the professionals and replace the condenser and drier?

Cody Clem says:

I need help. My 2012 GMC Acadia ac stopped when you push the button it just blinks a few times. Idk if I need to refill it and if I just plug it up and refill or do I need to jump the pressure switch to get clutch to spin or what. Or if something is bad and need replaced

dennydeckerful says:

How can you find out what size the o-ring is?

mb14 says:

If this is faulty can the compressor not come on at all? when I jump the switch the compressor kicks on. but won't kick on at all other the hot wiring it quick. the freon level checks out good with the ac kit I bought

XxMalaboo says:

My pontiac grand prix AC doesnt work well when its hot out. It blows hot air for about 10-15 minutes and then it will all of a sudden blow ice cold. Only happens really during summer. Thoughts? @1Road

S S says:

Salam to All,
I've been suffering from this quite some years, replaced thermostats and heat sensors and even ECU, but still the problem as Frank pointed randomly occurs, I question the symptoms to be clear on the solution:
The temperature gage goes off, and the AC stops cooling and air is hot amd moist, the AC will never work till the bettary is disconnected (car reset) or errors cleared with ODB2 device, is this symptoms you've been facing ? I ordered the part and will try with the pressure gage as a last resort, as I tried everything,
My car is the beautiful GMC ENVOY 2006 4.2L
Thank you for your video, please advise if the same symptoms occurs..

Rigoberto Loza says:

FPS GAMING PC'S says:

Came home parked it it was working went out next day cranked it up and no cold air but the compressor is kicking in and out could it be this?

Jimmy Cain says:

I did this and fixed my 93 El Dorado for $30 bucks. The repair shop had already done everything else but it kept blowing cold on and off (mostly off) until I did this.
