JoeTheAutoGuy says:

thanks for watching, glad i could help yea. seems like a great chance it the regulator

dj qyetstorm says:

THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. my 99 yukon will start fine most of the time, but if it sits for a day or so i’d have to start it 2-3 times before it ran.

JD071E says:

Thanks for the video. I had a problem with my 1999 Silverado starting hard after it warmed up. After replacing the fuel pressure regulator it starts right up. My regulator wasn’t leaking fuel but apparently there is a spring inside of it that was sticking…..

valerie davis says:

thanks that is the first time anyone has suggested that i woill look into it

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

on your setup is a little different, the 4.3 uses a spider injection set up, i do not have a video for it but its a fairly common problem for these models. causes a no start and running rough condition, they have a regulater on them but it is housed in the intake which is pulling vacuum and usually not the case, most times its the spider inj. assembly as a whole

valerie davis says:

i have a 97 blazer that doesnt start with out starter fluid put in it i have had the fuel pump changed and that helped for about a day since then i am back to starter fluid to start my day could the pressure regulator be the problem

mbutler65b says:

I dont have any codes for it. Changed filter no start changed battery no start. Turns over fuel pump sounds good. Turned key on then off for about 6 times it almost started.

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

what kind of no start symptoms do you have, any dtc codes?

mbutler65b says:

Thanks I wad looking all day for it. My truck will not start so im trying fuel filter.

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

just a small pick will remove the o ring, its possible that its the FPR but to test it just pull the vacuum line off and let it run for up to two minutes if it spits gas at all in that time period its faulty

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

yep sometimes its just that easy, i hope i helped you in some way

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

sorry in 2004 they switched to a non fpr regulated fuel system so yours does not have one

mbutler65b says:

I can find it on my 2004 chevy Silverado 5.3

plymouthgem says:

My 95 Saturn SC2 started good first start of the day but then had a rough idle that bounced up and down in rpm but only did this after it warmed up for a few minutes. If I shut it off warm it would restart quickly but if I waited to restart 5 minutes or more it would crank and crank before sputtering to a start. Also didn’t accelerate as fast as it should. Changed the IAC, TPS, plugs, wires, fuel filter, checked the coils and were good. Unplugged vacuum hose to FPR, spit gas. That was the prob.

JD071E says:

(1) I have a 1999 Silverado that starts fine when it’s cold but acts like it’s not getting fuel when trying to start it after it’s warm. Do you think this problem is caused by a defective fuel pressure regulator?

(2) Is there a special tool or to you have any suggestions on removing the “O” ring from the socket after the regulator is removed?

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

i will have one up for that soon

norman mckenzie says:

How about a video on checking the fuel pressure on a 99 Tahoe 5.7L.

BklynJayL says:

I’m hoping it’s just the Fuel Pump Relay that’s causing my ’99 Suburban to have a long, and hard start at 1st. crank in the morning, but I’m not sure if it’s THAT, the FPR., or the Fuel Pump. I was told, it could most likely be my Fuel Pump, but I had the Fuel Pump changed only 4 yrs. ago, and when it finally does start, it stay running like new, all the way until I, cut it off again…then, it cranks, and starts without a problem…unless I, leave it sitting for a few hrs.. I’m confused..

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

thanks im glad i could help

Nick Henton says:

many thanks you really helped me alot

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

i would check for a vacuum leak especially for a stall, does it have any check engine codes?

John Maier says:

My 2002 2500HD 8.1 has the starting problem you describe. But it also stalls, but then will start again. I haven’t been left on the side of the road. The guy I took it too first replaced the relay, and that helped for awhile. Then he replaced the fuel pump (for big bucks) and that helped too, but the truck still stalls. My buddy told me to to start it up at night and watch for spark on the plug wares, but I didn’t see even a flicker in there. The plug wires have never been replaced tho.

Greenmonoluche says:

@LoraxWoWgod make sure u grounded the fuel pump I think on 88-98 trucks it grounds on the chassis near the gas tank get under there and check that might be it

LoraxWoWGod says:

My 94 chev 1500 will not start. i can pour fuel down the throttle body and it will start and run but only until that fuel is burned up. I have no power going to the fuel pump relay and fuel pump fuse or at the pump, all the fuses are fine, its not a ground and i just replaced the pump trying to fix this issue. Fuel filter is also relatively new. any ideas?

James Blodgett says:

Replaced the fuel injectors, they were leaking.

Brandon Kempinski says:

hey what is that green cap screw on the plastic tube line by the fuel regulator?

wortbut says:

so what was needed to fix your car, my 99 cad 5.7 is doing the same thing.

kcrunchone hill says:

For anyone viewing this video and hesitating dont this guy knows what the heck is going on with this problem. My truck had been to the dealer and multiple mechanics and nothing. It took about 40 minutes and it was done. I wish I lived by this guy I would make him my mechanic for the tough stuff and jobs I dont want to do…..Thanks again for this amazing tip…..

kcrunchone hill says:

OK I dont know where to start but THANK YOU…. Guy this is the answer right here I stopped at the autobarn on the way home picked up the part about $70 not bad I thought. I came home a bit hesitant and then started hoping and praying that this was the answer and yes this quick fix KICKs AZZ. I have to say that I was kinda not sure if it would work but the engine turned over stronger than it ever has before, it also ran smoother than ever and to add all the best on top. CHECK ENGINE is OFF!!!!!

kcrunchone hill says:

Craziest thing is it will run like a gem when it does actually start and run. I will pick up a fuel pressure regulator on my way home today. Are there any special steps prior to changing it other than just replacing the part. That sounds rather simple but if there are any steps that I need to know or do prior to pulling and replacing the part?

James Blodgett says:

That’s what everyone was telling me but I know It’s not the problem. If it was it would do it all the time. I figured it out & fixed it, my fuel injectors were leaking.

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

in some more severe cases yes if its at idle you may have a vacuum leak as well

James Blodgett says:

I replaced the regulator & injectors (from junkyard) but who knows if those are good, lol. So not sure. I also did a fuel pressure test it’s fine

James Blodgett says:

I haven’t figured it out yet

dustyz1983 says:

Would the fuel regulator make my truck miss and act like it is starving for fuel

gumersindo carrillo says:

What was your resolution to your problem mine has the same problem

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

what year is the Beretta, its possible you have a vacuum leak causing the hesitation, or a fuel regulator , possible , might even be an issue with a crankshaft position sensor . its hard to say but i would go about checking for vacuum leaks

Temerlela says:

my chevy beretta runs with some hesitation in the morning, but in hot weather late after noon drive i have hard time to start the engine. engine crank, but it wont start. I thought the problem might the fuel pressure regulator? what do think?

DoktorRick says:

Anything for the DURAMAX??

itsmeisityou1 says:

Thanks for the vid. I have an 03 5.3, the fuel pressure reg isn’t leaking its leaking around the base of the fuel in and return lines. It has idled rough for quite a while but starts fine, but today started dripping fuel from the base of those lines. I’m pretty sure its the reg but was curious what you thought. Thanks for the tips and video, crazy how much that little part costs.

Enrique Escamilla says:

I have a c4500, the rpm is very low, it works fine and after it idles for a while it stops and it takes about 15 minutes of pumping the fuel filter several dozen times to start it again

warphace says:

Do you have a preference between ACdelco or Delphi regulator units, the delphi one I used first is buzzing/vibrating.

warphace says:

This fixed my hard starting, however it now makes a loud vibration/humming sound which goes away as soon as you remove the vacuum line, got a new regulator on order. Have you run into anything like that? Man what is it with GM vehicles and fuel pressure regulators, it seems like they fail at about a 60-75% rate over the life of the vehicle.

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

in 2004 gm switched to a fuel pump driver module to control the fuel pump pressure eliminating this problem

JoeTheAutoGuy says:

check your fuel pressure and the vacuum line and see if there is any signs of this being your issue, any dtc codes?

James Blodgett says:

Mine starts fine in the morning. After it’s been running then sitting a while it had a hard time starting back up.

walleye17ao says:

Our 03 Silverado had this go bad a couple years ago, now this winter it cracked and spewed gas on the exhaust manifold. Would’ve lit up if it wasn’t 10 below

104snake says:

My 2006 5.3l doesn’t have one of these??
