I’m a diy mechanic but not a pro by any means. i’m usually just tune up and
minor repair but this looks intimidating. Although the more videos of this
job i see here on yt, the more confidence I’m gaining in giving it a try.
On the bright side I live one mile from work so I could walk while I take
my time and do this over the course of 2 or 3 days. i own a 3.1l grand
prix. I miss the old monte carlo i had. small block v8, easy to work on.
time to gather some tools!

Joshau Downing says:

this video could be a lot better if he didnt move that camera all over the
place. i am going to blow chunks myself.

xsmokedoutx says:

Not ALL GM 3.1s have that problem. You are incorrect.Mine has 64K and its a
2001 with no probs. If you get that shitty GM red antifreeze outta there
early and check the torque on the bolts you will be fine.

DJR5280 says:

can anyone tell me if the intake manifold gasket issue applies to the 3.5 l
engine in the malibu because i was told that GM fixed these issues in the
3.5.

jdubb408 says:

these are pretty fun to do

midgetmayo says:

Very good video. Wish I saw this before I did mine. lol!

John Hooten says:

oh dear God! I think I’m gonna blow chuncks! This video is horrible…good
info. though.

Heather Stacy says:

very helpful, i own a grandam with a simmilar set up to this mine is just a
3.4l v6. I wanted to get a look at what was needed to change the gasket
before i took it to my mechanic and this was helpful so i won’t be over
charged. thanks!!

PreppyBoys Autoo says:

@Noxshus At my shop I charge $350 plus tax. Generally from most other shops
your looking anywhere from say $450 to $1000. Of course it varies by where
you take it and their labor rate

Eric Behrman says:

I think somone else asked the question I did not see an answer. Can this
infamous leak cause oil to get into the coolant system?

angel neo says:

Hey man i just bought the kit and everything but where does the O Rings
Go??? help please!

Michael Muro says:

Fel Pro Engine Intake Manifold Gasket Set MS98004T was the one I got for my
car. I have a 1996 3.1 Lumina

bobdole92 says:

Thanks for the video, had this done on my 97 cutlass supreme a while back,
good to see what they actually did

New Evolution says:

whoa wait a min i just started this. the gasket i got is a fel-pro but its
not metal its all plastic. the box says its for my vehicle 01′ Chevy Lumina
3.1. do you think this will cause problems for me later on?

Michael Vollman says:

Left some time saving advice out, also some very helpful torque specs.
Everyone seems to make the mistake of messing wih the fuel rails!, don’t
touch them just loosen the hold down bolts and that will allow enough room
to get the lower intake bolts out, of course you will have to disconnect
the fuel lines but disconnecting to lines is easier then replacing injector
clips. Also the line are to be seperated at the quick connects, NOT THE
FUEL RAILS. But in all not to bad of a video. Thanks

Dustin Yambrisak says:

how much for same job you did in this video? 99 buick century?

22joeysgurl says:

i dont know if anyone caught this yet but you said that the power steering
pump was bolted directley to lower intake manfold thats funny because i
just changed head gaskets and lifters on my 3.1 in my grand am and i never
touched the power steering pump

Paul Glaze says:

Firestone on Manchester ct, quoted me over 1200.

TheCharley1957 says:

@preppyboysauto how much do you guys charge to swap engines, and can you
put a 3400 in place of a 3100, which had been repaired by three differant
so called mechanix, i have a recent reman 3400 longblock , and my malibu
came with a 3100 one is 2003/ and longblock is 99 model

Kevin Rogers says:

tip for the future, dont remove the fuel rail, remove the plastic cap off
the fuel rail valve and u can slide the power steering pump up u can do
this, done a few working for GM saves alot of time

shinyfuzzy says:

why do you have to take the pushrods out?

punker6506 says:

they make a special tool that lets you take the pushrods out without
loosening the rocker arms. saves you from having to worry about torquing
the bolt back down to spec. because if you don’t torque them there is a
good chance the threads will eventually come out of the head causing a big
headache.

impalaboy02 says:

where r u located

PreppyBoys Autoo says:

$350 plus tax is what I charge in my shop for this job, either they are
quoting alot higher or they are factoring in some other parts that may
break which do happen from time to time

spark4200 says:

HOLD THE CAM STILL–GET HELP

freak777power says:

Every time i see GM V6 engine i want to puke. They are the biggest pile of
crap.

New Evolution says:

just finished now my car is acting up (FML) it starts just fine idles, well
it doesn’t idle it just dies after it starts. if i give it a little
throttle when it starts it revs up just fine but let the throttle go and i
slight backfire and it dies. WTF?!? i officially love to hate this car.
side note: when installing the fuel rail, it never quite sat flush like it
was when i took it out i assumed tightening the retainer bolts would reset
the injectors i’m assuming i was wrong.

Mia Washington says:

how much would u charge for this job

Eric Behrman says:

Great video used all your tips for getting my 1998 Buick Century limited
done. Thanks for video. Saved me a lot of cash, took me a little time but
well worth it. Went with Felpro gaskets.

Ashby McDimples says:

How long did this take you to do?

Jay Skony says:

Erick bonilla says:

loyd christmas says:

I will fix it for u for about 2 hours of your time.

jimmy101112000 says:

I know two shortcuts to do this job. One is to remove the fuel supply and
return lines leave the fuel rail in place along with the injectors. Just
replace or reuse the Fuel inlet o-ring which will pop out. The other is to
use an adjustable wrench to lift the push rod up and remove the push rod. I
would just flush the system out and replace with the good old green stuff.
Dex cool is really crappy coolant. Also it makes sense to replace the
thermostat too its a pain with the intake in place.
