How to Replace Rear Differential Fluid Ford F-150 1996-2004

This is a guide on how to replace the diff fluid on a Ford F150 between the years of 1996-2004. The video was done on a 8.8 rear end no limited slip. So if you have a different sized rear end or a limited slip you might need different fluid and/or the limited slip additive. Thanks for watching!

Elina Dryden says:

is this the same procedure that I can use in a 2004 ford expedition?

Nanaleigh says:

Great suggestion for storing the silicon. Just last night I was fighting with mine to get it to flow…then I covered mine with plastic wrap and a rubberband. But I like this way of silicone storage better. Thanks.

First time I've ever seen anyone use construction silicone as an auto gasket sealant, LOL.

I have a 2000 f150, I was told I don’t need a gasket, just silicone. I got red gasket maker(don’t know how that came about, lol) question is, do I not need a gasket? And if not, will the red gasket maker work? Thanks in advance

North Country Outlaw says:

Do you have to change the gasket every time you change the fluid?

Do you have to do anything to the front on a 2003 f150 2wd?

Ok I replaced the rear end seal in my ford step by step but the dif is still leaking should I try and replacethe same seal again with more silicone? Or try the front seal near the drive shaft?

Aman Shaikh says:

Should I use the silicone rubber on the transmission pan as well?

SD 90Mac says:

I don't think it matters, but was this a truck with an automatic transmission, or with a 5 speed manual cause mines is 5 speed maunal, 4*4 with a 4.6 engine and I'm jus only haven trouble with the tiny security screw that holds the pin in place, it keeps loosing, Red thread locker doesn't seem to work, I may need to flood it with lock tight, I really don't want to, I got the truck new in 02, and yes it has high mileage, approximately, 950,000 miles, still runs great except for the rear end issues I'm experiencing. Any advise.

Lane Allarie says:

Well it sure worked when I silconed around the bolt holes

Dingbat says:

you dont need RTV, torque on cover is 25-35, and 15-30 on fill plug

Question: I have a 1996 F150 XL I have replaced the drum brakes. When driving I hear a squeaking noise from the rear driver side. Will replacing the diff fluid work with reducing that squeak? Thanks for this great video by the way.

Joshua Moore says:

There are gaskets you can buy.

Should I get a gasket or create one?
