In less than 3 minutes Bruce walked me through a complete fix for my 99 F150 odometer problem, with roughly 155,000 miles on it. There were 2 glitches for me . The headlight /dimmer switch assembly has a cover on it . I tried to lift it out by the cover when I should have gone a little deeper with the flat screwdriver that I was using . While putting the complete cluster back in, I found that I still need some improvement in the patience area.
Thanks for a video that explained and showed me how to accomplish this task. It must be true that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Thanks for the info but I must add. Beginning At 0:41 if you have a lamp switch with "Auto Lamp" option like this http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/F150%20Fog%20Light%20Switch%20with%20Auto%20Lamps%20Into%20a%2096-99%20SHO.htm it does not come out like the one here in the video. If you try and remove it the way you did, it will break as mine has. I have ordered me a replacement now off ebay but I wish I would have known about the issue. Please if not too much trouble, state this info in your vid. If you look in the pics on the link above you will see 2 L shaped slots with plastic "posts" for lesser words, that you need to slide towards the passenger side. This will in turn retract the large latch bolt type retainer on the drivers side of the switch assembly and allow removal. I kept pulling at my switch thinking it had the same type of retention mechanism and it literally pulled itself apart breaking the bezel and the retention mechanism. As stated, luckily I found one on Ebay last night for around $40.00 which is a deal compared to new aftermarket versions.
Thanks again for the informative video, it was still a great help to me!

It works on 1999 F150; however, I found that the light switch is different. The switch has a tab on the left side that, when pressed, releases three smaller tabs (top and bottom) to release the assembly.

Hey Bruce great detailed instructions and your repair worked perfectly on my 2000 F150 XLT.. Except I ended up with one problem… The ODO reset button fell out.. i put it back but it does not work at all, and it's kind of loose, after I installed it back in the truck.
?
Do you have any idea how it is supposed to be installed? Is there more than the one piece of plastic?

Appreciate any advice… Taking it out again is no biggie….

Based on the comments the most common problem seems to be bad solder connection(s) on the PCB boards. However, on my 2000 F150 all solder points on both the master PCB and the odometer mini PCB were visually perfect so I didn't immediately re-solder anything. I kept checking and found a small amount of discoloration that appeared to be a burn mark in the upper left corner of the odometer glass. That's usually a sign of some sort of shorting or arcing so I kept looking and here's what I found…

Below is a screen clip of minute 2:36 in this video. Notice there are 9 solder points but 10 wires below them – leaving 1 wire unused. (2nd wire from the left in the pic below with the red arrow is the unused wire). I found that the insulation on the end of that unused wire was missing and the wire was laying against the PCB with the wire end exposed. I cut the unused wire a little shorter to pull it away from the PCB and wrapped it in electrical tape to seal it. This fixed my odometer problem. I did not need to re-solder anything. Isolating and insulating that unused wire on the odometer mini PCB resovled the issue for me.

Thanks a lot for the video, man! Followed your instructions today and fixed my 2004 f150 odometer with no issues. I just added solder to the far right, solitary pin and that solved it. It seems that that's the culprit every time from reading on forums. For anyone doing this, try adding solder just to the far right one and test it before reassembling the dashboard. It should be the only one necessary to repair in most cases.

Great video, I have a 99 expedition I need to do this to, I am mechanically inclined
but have never soldered anything before. Do you have a link to a
specific solder item i can buy specific to this??.. I see solder pencils
on Ebay for $5.00 will that do it?? Thank you
