You just saved me $50, thanks a lot. This also works for 1992 F150s, for what it’s worth.

Great video! I have been living with this problem for quite some time. If I knew then what to do and how easy it was to correct, I would have done it a long time ago. Thank you for your efforts.

Jeff K says:

thanks for the video, I thought my son had ruined my linkage when I let him use my truck for a few weeks. Thought it was going to cost a couple hundred bux to fix the problem but after watching this video it only took about 5 minutes to fix and its like new again!! thanks hoodjob4u, great tutorial :)

Please tell me you used a Torx and not a regular flathead screwdriver -_-

Thank you! I replaced my 1996 explorer worn shift indicator and still had the problem. I looked around the floor and found the screw and the other one loose. It was easy to find as you described and showed..

you’ve truly helped us, thanks so much, I had to post twice.

xDiZzTy says:

thanks dude, you’re the best

rowbocaster says:

Does this also fix the “hard to shift” problem? Mine very stiff.

jlbass72 says:

Will, try to snug up those bolts just in case….mine LOOKED to be tight. But if your bracket is tight, the screws probably are too, which means your shifter tube bushings are probably trashed. I tightened the bolts on my 98 F150, and it shifts like new, but, the shifter still has a little bit of slop. No big deal, atleast it now shifts good! lol….with 270k + miles, I KNOW my bushings need to be replaced, but they’ll be juuuuust fine for awhile..lol

jlbass72 says:

Dude! Thank you SOOOOOO F’ing much for the vid! I’ve seen forum posts, and just never could see the bolts that would come loose. I’ve been milking this truck for three months, and dreading taking it to a shop. I finally ran across your vid today! Fixed within 5 minutes!!! Oh, and for you guys like me, that have handfuls of T25’s, but no T30…..a T25 WILL grab, as long as you don’t torque it too much.

Will Becker says:

I have the same problem. I looked under the dash and see everything you are showing. What if the screws on the bracket are not loose? I checked all the screws and the bracket is still tight. Appreciate any other thoughts.

This video was spot on. My 2001 F150 had this exact issue and this video helped me diagnose and fix the issue. The two screws you spoke about the same amount of loose as your video shows. it all took about 10 minutes to fix. Thanks, you saved me a huge repair bill.
