I seldom even think of working on a car and just take it to a shop but wanted to give this a try since I was quoted a touch over 300 from 3 different shops. All I didn’t have was the brake caliper winder but autozone will rent the tool for free or a universal set is 20 bucks. I used a floor jack and and removed the the tires the old fashioned way. So me with limited mechanic skills do everything by hand in my garage was able to complete both back brakes in under a hour and that time includes going to autozone for the parts and tool loan. Your video is perfect and well done other than the ft lbs on the bolt slip up. Thank you for making the video!
His torque specs are incorrect! Unfortunately I did not read the comments first and snapped the caliper bolt while trying to torque to 53 ft-lbs. You should really edit the video.
You lucked out the retailer screw
Was not there an the rotor came off in 1 swing…
funny new pads have less surface area then the old ones. I would get pads that are the same
You should REALLY mention the rotor tension bolt while you're removing the rotor. For those like me doing as the video proceeds, I wailed on it for some time before containing the video and realizing there is a bolt. T40 torq
Damn, shoulda read the comments……yes, 53 lbs. of torque will indeed break the bolts. Research I found says 24 lb. ft.-lb. max.
What brand are those gloves?
He says 53 ft-lbs for caliper bolts. They should be 35 ft-lbs. You will break the bolt at 53 ft-lbs!
Just got my 2016 Ford explorer from USA, with front end damage, after collision. Need replacement parts to fix it but it's a bit tricky, because im living in Europe. There's plenty of 2014-2015's Explorers here. Question is about suspension parts, front end parts, like impact bar, fenders, radiator support from older models to use them to repair my 2016's Ford Explorer. Here are some pics. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Are these rotors not able to be turned? Most new ones aren't able to be turned but just curious, I hate that Manufacturers are doing this but they all seem to be the same. Also, do you have a part number for the special tool to back the caliper piston back in?
Are the caliper bolts supposed to break off before reaching 111 ft lbs? Cause that's what just happened.
Great video – and your parts and service are always great. Thx
You should use new pad clips. Not the old ones that have been cleaned. Do your kits not include clips like your competitors?
Placed an order with a customer representative for front and rear brakes pad kits with rotos for a 2018 Ford Explorer and boy I was truly disappointed. I received wrong brakes and wrong rotors. Still waiting to be contacted by quality control, I won’t go into my wasted time and weekend over this issue. Patiently waiting to resolve this issue….love your videos but so far not your order processing or your resolutions…..
Your a1 parts don’t come with new pads clips?
Can i use wd40 to clean those caliper screws?
