The new Ford Ranger is great, but Ford left off a tailgate damper. This video shows step-by-step instructions how to install a tailgate damper on a 2019 Ford Ranger. The damper used is DeeZee DZ43026, which is the exact same part that Ford sells as an upgrade kit for this truck, but is cheaper directly from DeeZee. Installation is very easy, but does require a T50 Torx driver (link below).

For those of you who already installed this kit on your truck, check the tailgate cable for any scratches. A few Ranger owners including myself noticed that the tailgate cable is sometimes pinched between the bracket and the lower portion of the damper.

That's pretty straightforward and rewarding!
I felt like maybe the washer on the upper mount should be removed, but a lot of washers on bolts like that are captive, and the ball socket for the damper is in the same place with or without it, so I assume it's not hurting anything either way.

I did this to my truck but wanted to look more for one that's between the hing ends but haven't found a video for any mid size truck with such damper
