How to: Fix Ford Focus water leaks (wet passenger footwell carpet)

The Focus Mk1 has a common problem with water getting in the cabin and ending up soaking the carpet. The usual cause is a mixture of a poor cowl panel design and a failing of a seal at the cabin filter housing. The solution involves much silicone sealant.

In this video I also seal the cowl panel to the windscreen glass, although I reiterate this is not as intended by Ford. And I also fix another leak I found.

Great video Craig. Any thoughts/suggestions about leaks on drivers side? 🙁 Would sealing both cowls to screen be helpful?

TheFrogstarFighter says:

I had the same issue and ended up simply using some Gorilla Tape along the windscreen edge. Initially I did this as a temp fix but over a year later it is still holding well and only looks any different from normal when you get really close.

Has the silicone held up?

Great condition focus mk1. Like it.

Tri Kota says:

Mondeo 3 have same problem with cabin filter box seal. If that seal is old – glass in the car will fogs up. that means Most of the time it happens when raining. Replacing that seal with a new one fix the problem. Btw bathroom sealant will do also.

Bryce Dykes says:

Mk2 Focus's also have a water leaking problem with the rear light seals. Good Video…
