xlucim says:

I noticed your posting date is 2008. Aren’t the new federal standards, 8
yrs/80k miles warranty on cats? Hopefully that is true in California too.

SuperMuncheese says:

the sound is fucked up 30 seconds in

Stephen Dunlop says:

Scott you one of my faviorates followed by Eric the car guy but i have
summit wrong with my cat aswel MOT garage failed my car today on this issue
and he said it needs a NEW cat converter so i took it to another MOT garage
/ center just to see if he said was correct and it failed there’s to but
they said the sensor needs replacing so i took car back to the dickhead who
says the CAT needs replacing he looked over it and confirmed it so i went
back to 2center and they passed it after the sensor replacment so i rubbed
it in 1st garage guys face and he got a punch for it also. But it dawned on
me if i was to get CAT Fxed without replacing it can i just clean it myself
with soapy water and maybe molasses used for rust ? BTW MOT is UK version
of the UsA anunal service

Antonio Banderas says:

Now how do you plug up the hole?

David Weber says:

Hey Scotty! So I have a 93 Honda prelude. I’ve replaced the spark plugs,
cap/rotor, and the fuel filter. The car accelerates great until it warns up
then it sounds like a Subaru and has barely any power to accelerate. Also
cruising in gear down the highway it will jerk. No check engine light cones
on and the car doesn’t overheat at all. Will idle between 800-1100 rpms. I
hear this can be a bad cat or o2 sensor. Any ideas? Also will cutting off
the cat make any difference? Thank you!

dozumbabfree says:

hi, i have a 2010 dodge nitro which when i push gas pedal it doesnt rev up
or move…if possible can you let me know what it could be if you have an
idea…thnk you

Sophia A says:

Hi Scotty Kilmer, I just saw this video and I am u a creek without a paddle
I have a 2006 Hyundai elantra and the catalytic converter is bad, I have
153k miles, I can’t take a smog or even pass it at that, I am unsure of
what to do, the price of one for my car is 1300 in California…do you have
any suggestions besides by a new one, does that federal program still
stand, and where would I go to take advantage of it…tags are paid for,
but I can’t even go and get them, because of the problem. :(

Ladislav Bursa says:

and what about the holes?!?that does affect the car if the cat is ok

Lovinmycoils says:

Hello, I have a 03 jaguar xtype 3.0. I have two codes p0420 and p0430
should I check the o2 sensors before buying a new cat. I don’t have
problems with hesitation or power loss. Thanks in advance!!

Bee20er says:

I get a rattle from what I think is my cat. But I have no check engine
light. Do you think this is the problem? And should I get some high flow
cats for my mustang?

changomoreno13 says:

Can a bad cat make your rpms real low and make your truck almost turn off??

RHiamJOEL says:

Scotty its me again, So i have a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant in which i just
replaced my 02 sensor (downstream) because when I ran the codes at autozone
that is what it came up as. But after going about 100miles my check engine
light came back on with the same code. On this car there is two catalytic
converters and two 02 sensors(upstream and downstream)

Toothlessratdog says:

very informative. my right ear LOVED it. you need to fix the sound on the
video

Alexis Tito says:

Hi Scotty. I have a 97 Chevy Blazer and we’ve changed the fuel pump, spark
plugs and distributor cap and rotor, but truck is still backfiring. I’ve
heard it could be the catalytic convertor. Do you think this may be the
issue and do we check it the same way as in this video? Thank you for your
answer.

Ken Fugate says:

Ok… first off.. You do a fantastic job!! next thing… I have an 03
trailblazer that gave off a P0420 code. Catylist below threshold bank 1 or
something like that… I had an OEM converter installed, 2 brand new 02
sensors, and i still got the same check engine light… It’s been cleared
multiple times and it keeps coming back. sometimes a day later and
sometimes 5 hours later… I’m puzzled… It’s too much money to go
through all that again… Help me please

vqfive says:

Where do I get the little metal plugs to plug the hole up. What do you call
them plugs.

casinero55 says:

I have a 1997 Buick Skylark 2.4 (4 cylinder) and the check engine light
came on.
I placed my Innova 3030 CanOBD2 Car Reader and it gave me the following
code P0420 per the website list this code description is Catalyst System
Efficiency below Threshold (Bank 1), what does this mean, what do I have to
replace or do? Please let me know what can be done. Thanks.

Byron Pelico says:

Scotty i have a question. ¿How to know if the catalytic is failing? thanks.

Joe Montes says:

Hey Scotty my 1995 ford explorer 4.0l v6 OHV has a problem where if I drive
it till it warms up, shut it off and restart 10 to 20 minutes later it
misfires and idles really rough and low, the only fix is to let it work it
self out of the misfire by running it for a minute or two or just throwing
it in gear and driving off a hundred feet. tried so far: spark plugs, wires
and ignition coil replaced(all new), idle air control valve(new), egr dpfe
sensor(new), MAF sensor (new), fuel pressure regulator(new),PCV valve new,
fuel and air filters(new), throttle position sensor(new) throttle
body(cleaned) checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner (found none).
general condition of truck: leaks oil from valve covers, not loosing
coolant, just put in a new radiator and new hoses and new thermostat two
months ago, coolant reservoir is at proper level/stayed the same, coolant
is nice and mountain dew green(and doesn’t overheat) . No odd smoke from
exhaust, however when misfiring exhaust smells like mothballs, when running
fine, no smell from exhaust. Conditions never present when engine is cold.

sorry its long, but just trying to be thorough as I am at my wits end.
thanks in advanced.

jaime galvez says:

I need a Catalyst converter for a 2007 nissan altima, every time I want to
order one they ask me if I need the front one or the rear one. Why do they
asked me that? I thought there was only one.

Anthony Houska says:

Maybe you would be able to help me with my problem.. I have a 95 Chevy 1500
with a 350 TBI I have been having problems with. I have replaced fuel
filter, plugs, wires, cap and rotor on it. It has 116k miles and is
shuddering upon acceleration and seems to not be running at full power a
lot of the time. Upon starting after sitting all night it will run smooth
at idle. If I give it gas it shudders and seems to be missing. Once warm it
will smooth out but still shudder while accelerating and also at idle every
now and then. Since its gotten worse the temp gauge has gone funky and
started going up and down randomly also and having lights dim at stop
lights and also little surging every now and then. Sounds like it’s missing
bad from the exhaust when it does it. When driving it will make it not want
to shift correctly and also bog out sometimes and not have any power until
I really punch the gas and it will let loose. It has a leak at the manifold
flange gasket and I think it might be keeping it from fully missing if the
cat is really clogged. Not sure. Any ideas? Thank you

xxmobbdeepxx says:

how do I know if someone put something in my exhaust?

Noni Lee says:

Hi scotty, Thanks for posting such helpful videos. I have a 1999 RX 300
that doesn’t accelerate properly, it also lags speed after pressing on the
brakes and trying to re-accelerate. I have not noticed any leaks, but I do
hear a rattle coming from the bottom of the car. A couple of times the
floor of the drivers side was warm. Any advice??

sadetree32111 says:

hi Scotty. I believe my car (2008 nissan sentra with 66879 miles) needs a
new converter. it’s idling kinda rough and the exhaust smells and my
check engine light is on and my code scanner says I need one. this is the
first I’ve heard of a federal waranty, how do I go about getting a free
converter? and would the labor be included?

ArmaAceChannel says:

scotty kilmer is badass

mike james says:

Scotty I need your help. I have a 94 Camaro 3.4L v6. The idle is very high
and the car shakes, the check engine light comes on and off, and when im
driving it seems the acceleration is poor and the car loses power when im
going up hills. At one point the car wouldnt crank unless I had my foot on
the gas and would shut off sometimes once I took my foot off. I added oil
to the engine, put in a fuel injection cleaner, cleaned the throttle body
and cleaned the AIS, and the car starts but idle is still poor, check
engine comes on, and car still drives poor. What should I do? Is it EGR? An
o2 sensor? Or cat?

Albee213 says:

Did you use a jack stand?

thomas elliott says:

you never mentioned how to seal up those holes again though

Anwar Deterville says:

wait? what plugs were those and where do you get them

ElvisRockVinyl says:

Wouldn’t it just be easyer to do a vacuum test, hook up a vac tester to
your inlet manifold and if the hg decreases a lot with high rpm then you
have a restriction in your exhaust, that’s how i found that my one was
clogged

peterey2 says:

until the cheap universal cat converters that they weld into your exhaust
go bad and you end up going back to have your exhaust system cut apart
again to install the correct cat. lol

Tiffina' Bennett says:

We have a 2005 chevy trailblazer 6 cylinder. It keeps throwing
codes…..we have replaced everything know to the vehicle…except the
catalytic converter…..HELP……how many inches is the inlet on our
vehicle????

Robbin Greven says:

where can you buy that tool :)?

LilQuickTYPCUE says:

Will a bad converter cause your car to putt? While pressing acceleration?

Bignene628 says:

Hey Scott I have a 03 Durango and when I drive and come to a stop it smells
so bad that I have to close my window

MrTrumantube says:

Thanks Scotty. What’s the cheapest way to replace The cc for my 2001 BMW
525i?

David Weber says:

Thank you very much I will for sure look into that! Would love it to be
running full again. I will check the cat and go from there :)

gsxr6002005 says:

Scotty, my fiances 2008 Chevy Malibu will not go over 30mph. The check
engine light has been on for about 10 days but before today, it ran fine. A
friend of mine said it sounds like the catalytic converter is clogged/bad.
What do you think?

Portland581 says:

I have a 96 ford ranger 2.3l engine. Would I burn out the valves if I
remove teh catalytic converter?

Leonardo Mejias says:

Does a clogged up cc cause an overdrive not to kick in?

Daniel Gonzalez says:

Hi i have a 2002 nissan maxima when im driving you could feel hot air on
your feet do you think there is something wrong with the catalytic
converter

TheDrogan91 says:

Baby Alyssa says:

cgcq329 says:

I have a question, scotty, i got mines tested at a autozone and the guy
said that it needs to be cleaned up, do you know how much that might cost?

Francisco Armenta says:
