I replaced both bushings and the bolts in the back are tight yet it is still loose. The actual shift lever where it goes in the slot in the tube is wallered out I guess. I don’t know what else to try but now I Ordered a shift tube and lever and two pins. Hopefully that’ll get it. I can’t stand that floppy feeling. Cant!

Will this cause the vehicle not to shift? I was driving in the rain and I lost acceleration my first thought was the transmission! My shifter was already bad the indicator was off so I would have to be in 2nd to Actually be in drive. So I pulled over when I had the failure messed around with the shifter was able to shift it to 1st And was able to drive it home and what gears I can hit are all smooth no clunking so I’m Convinced something like this is causing my shifting issues either this or the shift solenoid?

Can I put my overdrive some qhere els

Ryan R says:

Would these cause the shifter to not get out of park intermittently? I have replaced the brake switch on the brake pedal but shifter still sticks in park?

Robert Scott says:

NOTE: 99 times out of 100 the slop in these shifters is the tube bushings or loose plate at the end link beneath the dash. However.. I have seen two different trucks, 92 F250 and 96 had loose bolts on the cable bracket on the transmission. In one case the bolts had nearly fallen out. This can cause many of the same symptoms.

Now yheres a man who cares about attention to detail. Thanks and Merry Christmas. Im thinking this is the area causing my problem. My '97 F150 4.2L's shifter is sticking and won't shift out of park and into gear. Does that sound about right?

Amy Young-Leith says:

So thankful for this video — my partner had this problem on his oldl F-250, and a mechanic wasn't familiar with the issue AND wanted $450 to do this repair after we told him what it was. After a few watches of the video — he did it himself in under an hour and it was fun AND functional. 🙂 THANK YOU.

John Markland says:

Great video! Gave me exactly the info I needed. Thank you soooo much. You are an excellent teacher and your sharing is very much appreciated.

Great video!

My 02 f150 has been giving me issues starting up. The odometer displays dashed lines and a couple of the dash indicators are illuminated (check engine, low fuel, etc). The engine turns but it seems like no fuel is allowed to enter the cylinders. The fuel pump engages once the key turns, but it will not start. Do you think this (above video) is my problem?

Xanthey Belmont says:

Ive got to go do this with my dads truck in an hour. VERY helpful video. Thank you!

Cristian Buitron says:

Thanks to you and your video I was able to replace my bushings in about 10 minutes!!!

hugo perez says:

Thank you very much for the video
I have 1997 Ford F-250 I opened it up like your video I changed the bushings. Tried it out the shifter will not go in park. Seems a little loose
Do you think it could be something else?
Thanks again

Mark Przesmicki says:
