Ford F150 & Expedition Sticky Steering Repair

In this video I show you how to diagnose and replace the all too common sticky steering shaft issue on these trucks. More often than not this concern is misdiagnosed as a binding rack or other…

Thanks for the vid.

Steve Rob says:

Great info. Is there a lubricant you recommend to prevent it from binding
in the future.

Good Vid. This video proves its cheaper in most cases to have the car/truck
fixed at the dealer because they work on these all the time and have the
experience necessary to resolve the concern. Thanks for all the info!

I have a 2006 F150 and the only way to get the wheels too turn is High
revs, I have no leaks and the reservoir is full, does this solution apply
to my problem as well?

North East Corner Unit 62 Mobile says:

nice vid BUT EXPEDITION owners verry tight fit for the bottom bolt must
line up just to the right of the oil filter also a air hammer is verry
helpfull to get the bottom off aslo tap the bottom in on the reinstall. the
way he shows the hammer effect is basicly impossible on the 2007 expedition
rent an air compressor and use an air hammer its a must! he is right about
doing the shaft i almost got a pump and never thought about the shaft
THANKS

things to the viewer . Keep up the good work!!

Question, would this cause a “clunking/knocking” noise as you rock the
steering wheel left and right, in short motion? If I have the engine off
and rock the wheel back and forth; you are really able to hear it. The best
video of the noise I’ve found is this one. Thanks for the videos and all
the information!!

I had an issue with the steering binding on my 2007 F150, I sprayed Kroil
on the upper and lower U-joints and turned the steering from side to side
as far as it would go and the binding issue disappeared completely.

Thanks for the video tutorial. Made doing the job simple with one
exception. Instead of 8 or 9 pumps on the steering shaft to get the lower
part off I had to do around 80. Then I had to go to the bottom side and I
used a panel puller and a hammer. The panel puller gave me just the right
angle to get at the underside of the joint so I could use a hammer. Now it
is all cleaned up and I am waiting for new shaft to get here. Will update
when complete.. again thank you.
