Thanks, been looking to do an oil filter change on my missus KA, good
little reference guide. Two things to note from your video:

No idea what engine flush that is, but be very careful what brand you buy.
Some of the really cheap engine flushes are just ethanol in a bottle which
does clean your engine, but adds excessive wear as ethanol contains no
lubricating factors whatsoever. A more expensive oil flush like Forte,
actually has specialist lubricating properties mixed in, so there is
absolutely no wear whatsoever. Beware of cheap flushes (aka your Halfords
£3.99 special). Forte is a trade brand, so eBay is the best place.

In my opinion, you overfilled the oil filter a little. Don’t forget, while
there’s no oil in the sump, the majority of engine components will remain
lubricated, even after you’ve drained it. There is still a coating on the
cylinders. It doesn’t take long for your oil to pump round your engine, and
if you’re that scared, simply pull the ignition fuse/fuel pump fuse out of
the fuse box and crank the engine. Much easier than overfilling your oil
filter which can result in oil spilling down the side and making a mess. I
also would never do this on a vertical cylinder, only horizontal.

Thank you very much for this video!!! I just got my first car, Ford Ka –
and didn’t know how to open the oil tank to top it up with the oil… now I
know! 🙂

thank you for showing how it is done, not having some old fart talk about
cars for 5 mins then show 4 pictures of an engine. helpful.

Great stuff….thanks.

I tried it and it wasn’t a good choice. It started to sound like a diesel
engine and I had problems starting the engine once in 6 months. It seems
modern engines have lower tolerances therefore stick with the manufacturer
specs.

Can you use 5W-40 on a 2004 Ford Ka with Duratec engine without causing
problems?

I just did this on a 1.6 KA 05 plate (the sporty one) the first service in
my possession. The oil filter was jammed solid my filter wrench just
crushed it. The only way to get it off was to dismantle the filter where it
was with a hammer, chisel, pliers, tin snips and some of my blood. I had to
cut it all away, down to the base plate and then shock that off. PAY HEED,
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN YOUR OIL FILTER !!
